Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Trent Rainey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Derrick Carmichael (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Trent Rainey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Derrick Carmichael !
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rainey misses with a double jab

and Carmichael counters by moving into the clinch.
Carmichael lands a left hand that snaps the head of Rainey backwards.
Rainey drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Carmichael gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Rainey is looking for a takedown.
Rainey is breathing heavily.

Carmichael pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Rainey blocks the body kick.
Rainey shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Carmichael defends it nicely.
Carmichael unleashes a big counter combination but Rainey bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Trent Rainey. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Carmichael changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Rainey looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Rainey's coaches at Cozad MMA Los Angeles have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.

Carmichael decides to stand back up. Carmichael steps back and let's Rainey get back to his feet.
Rainey shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Carmichael pinned against the cage. Carmichael gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Carmichael moves into the clinch.

Rainey is fighting off a takedown attempt but Carmichael is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Rainey to the mat. Rainey regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Carmichael stands and steps away. Rainey gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Carmichael shoots for a double leg takedown but Rainey sprawls well. He's pushed Carmichael 's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Carmichael just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromRainey.
Carmichael lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Carmichael circles away from the clinch attempt.

Carmichael closes the distance and clinches.

Carmichael manages to break the clinch.
Rainey misses with a low kick.
A little jabbing left from Carmichael on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Rainey is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Carmichael steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Rainey.
Rainey tries to clinch there but Carmichael circles away.
Carmichael fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Carmichael checks a leg kick.
Carmichael slaps away a takedown attempt from Rainey, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Carmichael moves into range and clinches up with Rainey.
Carmichael drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Carmichael turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Carmichael decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Carmichael looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Rainey is fending him off so far but Carmichael persists. Nope, Rainey circles away and we're back to standing.
A little feinted left hand from Rainey on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Rainey shoots in for a takedown but Carmichael shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Rainey misses with a takedown

and Carmichael counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Carmichael .
Rainey is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Carmichael decides to pull guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Carmichael is on top in guard.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Rainey trying to keep a closed guard but Carmichael is proving a slippery customer.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Carmichael wants to get up but he can't break Rainey's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Carmichael has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Carmichael takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Rainey is looking to get to half guard.

Carmichael tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Rainey defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Carmichael .

Rainey is bucking up trying to escape but Carmichael cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Let's hope that Carmichael has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


A kick lands to the mid section there for Carmichael .
Carmichael looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Rainey is fending him off so far but Carmichael persists. Nope, Rainey circles away and we're back to standing.

Carmichael has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Rainey after a bit of a struggle.
Trent Rainey has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Derrick Carmichael .
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Rainey pulls guard successfully.
Carmichael slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Carmichael would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Carmichael pushes down on Rainey's leg and manages to get into half guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Carmichael stands up out of the half guard.

Rainey is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Carmichael .
Carmichael fails with the takedown.
Rainey wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

Carmichael throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Rainey tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Carmichael is in Rainey's guard.

Carmichael drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Carmichael jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The adventures of Carmichael the control monster continue. Boring.
Carmichael tries to stand but Rainey is controlling from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Trent Rainey is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Rainey shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Carmichael sprawls well. Carmichael wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Rainey gets slowly back to his feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Rainey enables Carmichael to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Rainey manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

And that's the end of the fight!
Derrick Carmichael comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Carmichael has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
