PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Malcolm Reynolds (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jerome Le Banner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Reynolds comes to the cage accompanied by Ballad Of Serenity. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Malcolm Reynolds!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jerome Le Banner!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Banner will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Banner lands a right hook to the body.

Reynolds shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Banner napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Banner is looking to regain half guard here but Reynolds keeps moving and retains side control.
Reynolds throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Banner works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Reynolds thows a huge punch but Banner dodges it nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Banner manages to get to full guard.
Reynolds postures up in Banner's guard and throws a big left but Banner blocks it.
Banner has control of Reynolds's left arm, preventing Reynolds from doing any damage.
Banner wants to stand up but Reynolds is controlling him.
Reynolds passes into half guard.
Banner is staying active underneath Reynolds, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Reynolds thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Reynolds is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Banner is controlling Reynolds's trapped leg to prevent Reynolds from advancing to side control.
Reynolds is looking to advance position but Banner won't allow it.
Reynolds is keen to just control but Banner is a slippery customer.
Reynolds content to control rather than advance.
Banner wants to control but Reynolds is keeping busy.

The fighters are battling for position here. Banner manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Reynolds trying to control but Banner is working from the bottom.
Reynolds is fighting to break Banner's control of his arms but Banner is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Reynolds prevents Banner from getting back to his feet.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Banner throws a hook but Reynolds avoids it easily.
Banner misses with an uppercut.
Reynolds lands with a cross.
Banner swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Reynolds shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Banner is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Reynolds presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Reynolds swings wildly with an uppercut but Banner uses good head movement to avoid it.
Reynolds takes a shot to the head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Reynolds breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Reynolds closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Banner lands a right hook to the body.
Reynolds lands a glancing blow to the side of Banner's head.
Banner connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Reynolds's hands.
Banner scores with a decent looking hook.
Banner cracks Reynolds with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Banner misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Reynolds.
Reynolds swings for the body but Banner moves out of range.
Reynolds swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Banner throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Reynolds drops down looking for a counter takedown but Banner sprawls and moves away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jerome Le Banner dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Banner rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Reynolds counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Banner thinking.
Reynolds steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Banner.
Banner walks into a jab.
Banner misses the jab.
Banner blocks a head kick by Reynolds.

Reynolds throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Banner was covering up waiting for the punch and Reynolds finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Banner pushes Reynolds off and scrambles back to his feet.
Banner leaves Reynolds with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Banner's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Banner duly obliges.


It looks like Malcolm Reynolds has been cut.
Reynolds throws a body punch but Banner moves out of range.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Some wild striking there from Banner.
Reynolds takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Reynolds throws a lazy uppercut

and Banner counters with a shoot takedown. Reynolds fights it but they end up in guard.

Banner makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Banner pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Reynolds is keeping the position for now.

Reynolds looking for a guillotine here but Banner defends easily.
Banner must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Reynolds looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Banner has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Banner wanted to stand there but Reynolds had control of the position.
Reynolds wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Banner is now in half guard.
Banner is trying to control. Reynolds wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Reynolds is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Banner seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Banner wants to take a breather but Reynolds is having none of it.
Reynolds is looking for a sweep. Banner is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Reynolds slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Banner connects with a couple of short punches.
Reynolds lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Banner is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Jerome Le Banner has got the better of the ground game so far.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Reynolds accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Reynolds passes into half guard.
Reynolds prevents Banner from standing back up.

Reynolds seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead Banner has recovered full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Reynolds stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Banner swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jerome Le Banner showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Banner misses with a looping right.
Reynolds on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
No joy there for Reynolds, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Reynolds lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Banner dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Reynolds seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Banner throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Banner lands a nice shot that snaps Reynolds's head back.
Good standup being displayed there by Reynolds as he connects with a hook.
Reynolds walks into a stiff left hand from Banner.
Reynolds tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Banner defends well and Reynolds ends up having to push Banner into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Banner throws a big overhand right that connects, sending Reynolds tumbling to the canvas!


Reynolds is rocked!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Banner postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Oh Reynolds is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Banner works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Banner uses his free foot to push down on Reynolds's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Reynolds.
Oooooh, big shot lands for Banner! Reynolds is hurt baaadly! Banner is firing away with more strikes - Reynolds is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jerome Le Banner!
