PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Silent Bob (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Raoul De Muerta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying De Muerta's choice of entrance music: The Crystal Method. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 6 - 1, fighting out of London, Silent Bob!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Raoul De Muerta!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Richard Clark and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
De Muerta slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Bob throws an ugly left hook that misses
and De Muerta counters with a straight right hand.
De Muerta with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Bob to score with a decent uppercut.
De Muerta looks to land a combination but Bob avoids it well.
De Muerta throws a shot from downtown. Bob moves away and avoids it.
Bob has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Wolf Training Lair in the buildup to the fight.
Bob shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Bob misses the body punch
and De Muerta connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
De Muerta misses with a body kick.
Bob feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to De Muerta's calf.

De Muerta cracks Bob with a nice body shot.

Bob tries to work over De Muerta's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Bob digs a right hand underneath De Muerta's ribcage. De Muerta let out a lung full of air as it connected.
A head punch on the inside from De Muerta fails to land.
Bob has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. De Muerta avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
De Muerta blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
De Muerta tries to work over Bob's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
De Muerta blocks an uppercut.
Bob misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Bob misses with a hook to the ribs.
A body shot lands from Bob.
De Muerta lands a nice uppercut.

De Muerta lands a hook to the side of the head.
Bob tries to throw a body punch but De Muerta avoids it by throwing Bob back against the cage.
De Muerta tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Bob's elbow.

Bob has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics De Muerta uses from the top position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

De Muerta is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Bob wants to improve his position but De Muerta is controlling well.
Bob is trying to maintain the position but De Muerta is very close to passing his half guard.

Bob holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

De Muerta is looking for a kimura but Bob is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for De Muerta to get the leverage.
Bob is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute De Muerta jumps into side control!
Bob tries to buck De Muerta off but De Muerta is having none of it.
Bob manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Bob fails with the takedown
and De Muerta counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
De Muerta misses with a straight right.
Bob throws a hook to the side of De Muerta's head but De Muerta sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Silent Bob seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bob jabbing away but nothing is landing.
De Muerta only half commits to the counter leg kick.
Bob displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as De Muerta throws out the jab.
Bob misses with a hook.
De Muerta goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Bob takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
De Muerta connects with a body shot that sends Bob's belly button to the back.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
De Muerta sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
De Muerta throws a body kick that misses.
Bob tries for a takedown but De Muerta circles away easily
and De Muerta counters with a straight right hand.
Bob throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
It seemed like De Muerta was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

De Muerta throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Bob sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Bob tries to land a body kick
and De Muerta counters with a head kick.
De Muerta pulls out of a head kick attempt.
De Muerta scores with a shot to the body.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! De Muerta crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Bob - the referee stops the clock and De Muerta gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Bob. De Muerta manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
De Muerta has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.
De Muerta takes a shot right to the bread basket.
De Muerta slaps away a takedown attempt from Bob, before circling back to the center of the mat.
De Muerta looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Silent Bob. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Bob misses with a head kick.
Bob avoids the head kick by De Muerta.

and De Muerta counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Bob turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
De Muerta buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
De Muerta throws a head kick that misses.
Bob doesn't succeed with the takedown
enabling De Muerta to counter with a crisp jab.
De Muerta does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

and De Muerta counters with a left and a right that stings Bob.
De Muerta moves out of range of the body kick from Bob.
De Muerta scores with a decent looking hook.
De Muerta misses with a looping right.
Bob misses with a takedown attempt
and De Muerta counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Bob throws a half hearted mid kick.
Bob moves out of range of the body kick from De Muerta.
Raoul De Muerta is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

De Muerta feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Bob sprawling to the canvas! Bob rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can De Muerta finish him?!


Bob is rocked!

Bob manages to get an easy takedown there - catching De Muerta on his heels. He'll look to pass De Muerta's guard now, I'm sure.
Oh Bob is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Bob passes De Muerta's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Bob seems to have got his legs back now.
Bob thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
This has been an exciting period of action!
De Muerta regains full guard. Nicely done.
De Muerta preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bob is pushing down on De Muerta's leg trying to pass to half guard. De Muerta is fighting to maintain full guard but Bob has managed to sneak the leg through.
Bob throws a strike but De Muerta avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

De Muerta escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bob gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Raoul De Muerta showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


De Muerta throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

Bob looks for a takedown but De Muerta sprawls well.
De Muerta takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Bob jabs at De Muerta's body.
Bob fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Bob looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
De Muerta lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
De Muerta lands with a thumping leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bob throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
De Muerta misses with a body kick.
Bob scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Bob tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. De Muerta manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

De Muerta misses the shot to the body.
De Muerta takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Bob lands a leg kick that knocks De Muerta off balance momentarily.
Bob lands with a nice body punch.
De Muerta takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Bob misses with a wild body shot.
De Muerta steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.
Bob looks to score with a jab to the body but De Muerta is just out of range.

De Muerta throws a front kick aimed at Bob's knee but Bob avoids it well.
De Muerta has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Bob ducks down and throws a hook to the body but De Muerta moves away.

Bob moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Bob misses the shot to the body.
Bob with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
De Muerta misses with a body shot.
Bob scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Bob lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Bob.
Bob misses with an attempted mid kick.
De Muerta will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Bob changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. De Muerta looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Silent Bob overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Bob wants to lay and pray for a moment but De Muerta keeps working.

De Muerta tries to bench press Bob off him but Bob keeps the position.
Bob wants to control but De Muerta is keeping him busy.
Bob cracks De Muerta with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Bob unloads with some shots from mount but De Muerta bucks and avoids them well.

De Muerta in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
De Muerta is squirming around, avoiding Bob's attempts to control the action.

Bob lands a big shot there that rocks De Muerta but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
De Muerta regains half guard.
Raoul De Muerta is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

I think De Muerta has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
