PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Chris Gunn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ein Stein (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 8 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Chris Gunn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ein Stein!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gunn connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Gunn cracks Stein with an open hand slap.
Stein is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Stein uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Gunn has time to react.
Gunn waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Stein.
Gunn tries to clinch but Stein is having none of it.
Gunn connects with a body shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A telegraphed right hand from Gunn misses the target.
Stein misses with a takedown
and Gunn counters with a series of strikes. Stein will be more careful next time no doubt.
Chris Gunn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Stein shoots in looking for a takedown but Gunn manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Stein's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Stein scores with a nice hook to the head.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Gunn.

Stein drags the fight down to the ground.

Stein is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Stein pulls Gunn in close to his closed guard and prevents Gunn from doing any damage or advancing position.

Stein has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Gutz Gym. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

Stein bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Gunn's guard.

Stein postures up and lands a big shot to Gunn's brow.

Stein keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Gunn's head.
Gunn can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Stein controls the pace.
Stein postures up in Gunn's guard and throws a big left but Gunn blocks it.
Stein trying to control the position from guard on top but Gunn is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Gunn escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Stein gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Gunn not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Stein connects with a couple of short punches.

Stein won't allow Gunn to sweep him here.
Gunn manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Stein manages to get himself to full guard.

Gunn chips away with some ground and pound.

Stein looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Stein working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gunn doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gunn manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Stein is trying to control the position but Gunn postures up.

That was a close round but I would say that Chris Gunn will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Stein fails to land the takedown.
Stein takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
We've been told by Gunn's head coaches at gym closing that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Stein staying out of range there.
Gunn lunges at Stein with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Stein's hand.
Stein takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Gunn throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Gunn closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Gunn is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Stein can do to turn this around?
Stein is trying to control but can't.

Stein is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Gunn pulls his head out easily.
Ein Stein has got the better of the ground game so far.

Stein is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Gunn drops an elbow to the side of Stein's head.
Stein regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Gunn.
Gunn loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Gunn lands a couple of elbows.
Gunn controlling from the top position.

Gunn avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Stein is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Gunn is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Gunn throws a big right hand that misses.
Stein wants to control the position but Gunn says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Stein slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Gunn postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Stein lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

and Stein counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Chris Gunn is winning the standup battle so far.
Stein takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Gunn waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Stein.
Gunn takes a swing at Stein's ribcage but misses.
And Stein tries to counter it with a takedown but Gunn pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Gunn throws out a loose jab but Stein uses good head movement to avoid it.
Stein defending well as Gunn loads up on a big left hand.
Stein takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gunn moves into the clinch.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Stein.
Stein scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Stein blocking some punches.
Gunn struggles to land a body shot inside as Stein controls his hands.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Stein breaks the clinch.
A looping hook to the body misses from Stein. Gunn does a little dance to reset his feet.
Gunn keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Stein.
Stein swings away with a leg kick that misses.
As Stein tries to get set, Gunn tries to push him back and clinch up but Stein manages to avoid the attempt.
Gunn misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Stein.

Gunn was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Gunn connects with a single shot there.
Gunn throws a lazy right hand but Stein sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Stein avoids the body shot from Gunn.
Stein waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Gunn.
Ein Stein has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Gunn throws a lazy uppercut
and Stein counters with a lovely straight right hand!


Gunn is rocked!
Gunn rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Stein counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Oh Gunn is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Stein stuns Gunn with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Gunn seems to have got his legs back now.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Stein lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Gunn has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Gunn and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Gunn cracks Stein with an open hand slap.
Stein ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Stein throws a hook to the side of Gunn's head but Gunn sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Gunn was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Stein misses with a series of wild punches.
Stein has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Stein there as he acknowledges the shot.
Gunn is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gunn scores with a decent looking hook.
Gunn throws a looping overhand right but Stein ducks down to avoid it.
Stein looks to land a right hand but Gunn moved out of range.
Gunn throws a body shot but no joy.
Gunn throws an off balance right hand

and Stein counters with a takedown into side control.
Gunn on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Gunn throws a few strikes from the bottom but Stein takes advantage and mounts!
Stein looking to finish here with some ground and pound. He lands one big shot that has Gunn covering up... and two more big strikes land, forcing the referee to step in and put and end to proceedings! This fight is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ein Stein!
In his post fight interview, Ein Stein started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
