The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A chopping leg kick lands by Mc Steel.
Melkovick connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Mc Steel momentarily.
Mc Steel fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Melkovick checks it well.
Melkovick shoots in for a takedown but Mc Steel shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Mc Steel uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Melkovick.
Mc Steel misses with a hook.
Mc Steel tries to score with a low kick but Melkovick moves his leg out of the way.
Mc Steel fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Melkovick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mc Steel really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Melkovick. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Check out the look on Melkovick's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Melkovick is working Mc Steel over with some ground and pound from side control.
Melkovick remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Melkovick lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mc Steel can do anything to dispel that myth.

Melkovick seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Mc Steel for as long as he can get away with.
