Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Laam OvGod!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Emil Gustafsson!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Paul Gruel and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

OvGod rushes Gustafsson and presses him up against the cage.
OvGod using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Gustafsson has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Gustafsson dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
Gustafsson jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as OvGod walks away with a smile on his face. Gustafsson gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
OvGod connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
We've been told by OvGod's head coaches at Canadian Dragon MMA that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

OvGod gets tackled into the cage by Gustafsson. Gustafsson maintains the clinch.
Gustafsson tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Gustafsson fails to pull guard.
Laam OvGod has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Emil Gustafsson.
Gustafsson is looking for a takedown up against the cage. OvGod gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Gustafsson tries to pull guard but OvGod forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
OvGod using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Gustafsson has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
OvGod landing knees to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gustafsson misses with a body punch.
Gustafsson prevents OvGod from breaking the clinch.

OvGod breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Gustafsson doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
A jab from Gustafsson misses.
As Gustafsson tries to get set, OvGod tries to push him back and clinch up but Gustafsson manages to avoid the attempt.
An inside leg kick from OvGod misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
No joy there for OvGod, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Gustafsson forces OvGod back against the cage and clinches.
Gustafsson tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Gustafsson jumps guard.
OvGod is looking to work some ground and pound but Gustafsson has wrist control.
OvGod knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gustafsson on the ground.
Gustafsson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gustafsson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
OvGod wants to control from the top but Gustafsson keeps moving.
Gustafsson pulls OvGod in close to his closed guard and prevents OvGod from doing any damage or advancing position.
OvGod postures up in Gustafsson's guard and throws a big left but Gustafsson blocks it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gustafsson looking to hit a scissor sweep but OvGod is one step ahead there.
OvGod trying to control the position from guard on top but Gustafsson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Gustafsson pushes a forearm under OvGod's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, OvGod is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Emil Gustafsson!
