Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tito Gomez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Silvio Gasaspo!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Daniel Cesar and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gomez shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Gasaspo as he jumps to the side.

Gasaspo shoots in and bounces Gomez off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Gasaspo trying to control the position from guard on top but Gomez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Gasaspo preventing the sweep.
Gasaspo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gomez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Gomez wants to sweep but no luck.
Gasaspo is pushing down on Gomez's leg trying to pass to half guard. Gomez is fighting to maintain full guard but Gasaspo has managed to sneak the leg through.
Gasaspo is figuring out what he wants to do next.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gasaspo wants to pass the guard but Gomez is defending well.

Gasaspo is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Gasaspo looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
We've been hearing good reports from Gomez's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Gasaspo is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Gasaspo is looking to take a break and control but Gomez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Gasaspo is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Gomez is just riding it out for now. Gasaspo eventually gives up the hold.

Gasaspo looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Gasaspo is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Gomez defends it well.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Gomez trying to control but Gasaspo postures up.
Gomez wants to improve his position but Gasaspo is controlling well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gasaspo is keen to just control but Gomez is a slippery customer.
Gomez tries to get to full guard but Gasaspo has control of the leg.

Gasaspo is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Gomez sees it coming and defends easily.

Gasaspo is trying to work for a kimura but Gomez is defending well.
Gomez is not content to let Gasaspo control the position.
Gomez wants to get back to full guard.
Gomez might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Gasaspo keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Gasaspo prevents Gomez from improving his position.
Gomez moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Gomez is looking for a triangle but Gasaspo pushes his legs off easily.

Gasaspo has gone for a leg lock! Gomez slips out almost immediately though and dives into Gasaspo's guard.


Gasaspo is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Gomez trying to control but Gasaspo is working from the bottom.
Gomez forces his way into half guard.

Gomez is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Gasaspo still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Gasaspo has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

Gomez is not content to let Gasaspo control the position.

Gasaspo tries for a kimura but Gomez is defending well.
Gomez is looking to reverse the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Gasaspo has hold of Gomez's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Gomez seems comfortable defending it but Gasaspo has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Gomez is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Gomez is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Gasaspo couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Silvio Gasaspo!
