Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Michael Alvarez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 12 - 1, fighting out of London, Peter Taphorn!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Franklyn Lucas and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Taphorn misses with an attempted mid kick.
Alvarez pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Taphorn looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Taphorn cracks the inside of Alvarez's front leg.
Taphorn lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Taphorn cracks Alvarez with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Taphorn blocks a leg kick.
Taphorn looks to throw the jab but Alvarez is out of range.
Alvarez takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Alvarez checks a low kick from Taphorn.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Taphorn lands with a thumping leg kick.
We've been told by Alvarez's head coaches at Elite build that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Taphorn shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Alvarez but Alvarez pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Alvarez dips to his left and cracks Taphorn with an uppercut!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Taphorn fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Alvarez.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Taphorn.
Alvarez is looking to counter with a body kick.
Taphorn lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Taphorn shoots in but Alvarez avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Michael Alvarez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Peter Taphorn.
Alvarez takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Alvarez scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Alvarez walks into a straight right hand from Taphorn.
Taphorn throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Taphorn checks a low kick from Alvarez.

Alvarez throws a nice outside leg kick.
Taphorn misses with a takedown attempt

and Alvarez counters with a head kick that drops Taphorn to the mat! Taphorn scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Taphorn misses with a low kick as Alvarez jumps back.

Taphorn closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Taphorn lands in his opponent's guard.
Alvarez looking for a sweep. Not yet Alvarez, not yet.
Taphorn stops Alvarez from standing up.
Taphorn wants to pass the guard but Alvarez is keeping the position.
Taphorn passes Alvarez's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Alvarez on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Alvarez tries to get out of the position.

Taphorn is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Alvarez tries to roll over but Taphorn keeps him under control.
Alvarez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Taphorn on the ground.
Alvarez is not content to let Taphorn control the position.
Taphorn looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Taphorn trying to control from Alvarez's half guard. Alvarez has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Alvarez is pulling down on Taphorn's head to control his posture.

Alvarez has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Taphorn has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Alvarez breaks the clinch.

Taphorn gets a takedown into half guard.
Alvarez is refusing to be controlled, as Taphorn sits in half guard.

Taphorn in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Alvarez tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Taphorn!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Peter Taphorn!
An out of breath Peter Taphorn thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
Michael Alvarez was interviewed post fight and said 'I admit defeat. He did a good job.'.
