Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Wagner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stephen Griffiths (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ryan Wagner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Stephen Griffiths!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Chris Edwards and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Griffiths scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Wagner displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Griffiths.
We've been informed that Griffiths has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Griffiths misses the jab.
Griffiths fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Wagner misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Griffiths shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Griffiths showed some decent athleticism there.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Griffiths postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Wagner is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Griffiths, into his guard.


Griffiths is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Wagner is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Griffiths had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Wagner defends it easily.

Griffiths bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Wagner's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Griffiths stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wagner swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Wagner wants to sweep here but Griffiths controlling him for the moment.
Wagner can't keep his opponent in guard - Griffiths advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Still in half guard, Griffiths seems content to control.
Wagner manages to get to full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Stephen Griffiths dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Wagner doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Wagner moves out of range of the strikes.
Griffiths on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Wagner. Wagner obviously looking to wear him down.
Wagner fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Griffiths checks it well.
Griffiths throws a lazy uppercut
and Wagner counters with a nice body kick.

The fighters circle momentarily. Griffiths darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wagner takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Wagner gets caught flat footed, as Griffiths shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Griffiths postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Wagner is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Griffiths, into his guard.

Griffiths wants to sweep here but Wagner controlling him for the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Griffiths looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Wagner passes into half guard.
Wagner content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Wagner is looking to take a break and control but Griffiths is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Griffiths has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Griffiths is trying to maintain the position but Wagner is very close to passing his half guard.
Griffiths holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Still in half guard, Wagner seems content to control.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Griffiths is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Wagner pulls his head out easily.
Wagner will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Griffiths is trying to control but can't.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Griffiths tries to get to full guard but Wagner has control of the leg.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Griffiths throws a sloppy head kick and Wagner moves out of range easily.

Wagner throws a push kick but Griffiths slaps the foot to one side.
Griffiths lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Wagner throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Griffiths misses with a takedown attempt - Wagner sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Griffiths lands a lovely overhand right.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

and Wagner counters with a series of strikes. Griffiths will be more careful next time no doubt.

That was a close second round but I would say that Ryan Wagner will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Griffiths throws a shot from downtown. Wagner moves away and avoids it.
Griffiths lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.

and Wagner counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Griffiths jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Wagner stuffs the takedown attempt from Griffiths. Griffiths gets slowly back to his feet.

and Griffiths counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Griffiths lands with an uppercut that bounces Wagner off the cage and back into range.
Nice uppercut lands for Griffiths. That snapped Wagner's head back.
Griffiths tries to land a front kick but Wagner steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Wagner throws a quick counter kick to the body but Griffiths avoids it.

Wagner misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Griffiths drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Wagner defends it well.

Wagner changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Griffiths fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Wagner looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Griffiths throws a right and a left that Wagner avoids nicely.
A nice combination there by Wagner.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

and Griffiths counters with a nice uppercut.
Wagner misses with an uppercut.
Griffiths missing with a left hand there. Wagner was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Wagner moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Griffiths moves into range and connects with a jab.
Wagner walks into a straight right hand from Griffiths.
Stephen Griffiths seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Griffiths throws a hook to the side of Wagner's head but Wagner sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Wagner misses with a body kick.
Griffiths lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Griffiths throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Stephen Griffiths seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Griffiths throws a sloppy head kick and Wagner moves out of range easily.
As Griffiths backs away, Wagner returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
A looping hook to the body misses from Wagner. Griffiths does a little dance to reset his feet.

Griffiths avoids the body shot from Wagner.
Griffiths drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Wagner defends it well.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Griffiths crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Wagner - the referee stops the clock and Griffiths gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Wagner. Griffiths manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Griffiths is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Wagner tries to roll over but Griffiths keeps him under control.

Stephen Griffiths comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Griffiths has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
