The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mcfarland throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Towns's waist but Towns gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Mcfarland off to one side.

Towns feints and then cracks Mcfarland's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Mcfarland down.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

With the two fighters working up against the cage, Towns just misses with a elbow thrown towards Mcfarland's brow.
Towns has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Towns fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Mcfarland jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Towns walks away with a smile on his face. Mcfarland gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Towns throws a body punch but Mcfarland moves out of range.
Mcfarland dives in for a single leg takedown but Towns sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

and Towns counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Towns.

Isaiah Towns showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The crowd cheers as Towns lands an impressive looking overhand right. Mcfarland doesn't seem phased though.
Horrible takedown attempt by Mcfarland or perhaps it was just good defense by Towns, which made it look bad.

Mcfarland has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Towns can do anything to dispel that myth.
