PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ali Akbar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jacob Dunn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ali Akbar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jacob Dunn!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Viktor Lagutenko and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dunn wants to clinch.

Akbar bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Akbar advances nicely into full mount.
Akbar controlling the pace for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Akbar goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Dunn turns into him and now he's in Akbar's guard.

Dunn is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Akbar on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Akbar tries to get out of the position.
Dunn trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Dunn thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Akbar pulls Dunn in close to prevent any damage.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Akbar dodges the punch combination from Dunn.
Akbar keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Akbar gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Dunn regains guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dunn is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Akbar is controlling him.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Akbar drives through and clinches with Dunn against the cage.

Akbar has Dunn pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Akbar pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Dunn tumbling to the mat - Akbar dives into Dunn's guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Dunn manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Akbar lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Akbar winds up and cracks Dunn with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Dunn is defending against the submission attempts here by Akbar.
Akbar content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Akbar takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Dunn wants to control but Akbar is keeping busy.

Akbar decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Akbar fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Dunn, pushing him back against the cage.

Akbar has Dunn pulled in close to control his posture.

Akbar looking for subs off his back but Dunn has passed one foot through into half guard.
Dunn wants to lay and pray for a moment but Akbar keeps working.

Akbar keeping hold of Dunn's head, controlling as best he can.
Akbar wants to improve his position but Dunn is controlling well.

Dunn is trying to control. Akbar wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Dunn might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Akbar haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Akbar is looking to improve his position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Akbar gets the takedown into side control.
Dunn is breathing heavily.
A lull in the action here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Akbar has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!



Akbar closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Dunn explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Dunn has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Akbar is on him like a limpet, forcing Dunn back against the cage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Akbar has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Dunn wants to sweep but Akbar has passed to side control!
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Dunn takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Akbar controlling from side mount.
Akbar in side control, throwing shots but Dunn defends.
Dunn trying to remain calm as Akbar controls from the top position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Akbar decides to stand up, so the ref orders Dunn to his feet.

Akbar clinches up with Dunn and pushes him back against the cage.

Akbar breaks from the clinch.

Akbar drives through with a takedown into Dunn's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Akbar has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Akbar drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Dunn manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Akbar has Dunn in his guard.

Akbar might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Akbar has his foot on Dunn's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Dunn works his way back into a safe position though.
Akbar is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Akbar is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Dunn is fighting to break Akbar's control of his arms but Akbar is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Dunn avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Akbar is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Dunn tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Akbar smiles and moves away.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ali Akbar.
Well Akbar has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
