PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alphonso Chaney (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bill Nye (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bill Nye told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Alphonso Chaney!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Bill Nye!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, William Gold and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Nye looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Nye prevents Chaney from improving his position.
Chaney wants to control but Nye is keeping busy.
Nye is controlling the pace.
Chaney is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Nye wants to work for an arm triangle but Chaney is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Chaney could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Chaney tries to roll over but Nye keeps him under control.
Chaney wants to get back to his feet.

Chaney is looking to control Nye's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Chaney avoid being mounted?

Nye seems to be working for a kimura but Chaney defends the submission attempt.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Chaney is refusing to be controlled, as Nye sits in half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Bill Nye seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Nye shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Chaney manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Nye controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Chaney looking to hit a scissor sweep but Nye is one step ahead there.

Nye avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Chaney throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Nye makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Chaney working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nye doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nye manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Chaney is breathing heavily.
Chaney wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Nye is now in half guard.

Nye stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Chaney to get to his feet.

Nye shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Nye showed some decent athleticism there.
Chaney tries to get to full guard but Nye has control of the leg.

Nye is looking for a kimura but Chaney is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Nye to get the leverage.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bill Nye dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Excellent takedown into side control there by Nye.

Chaney throws Nye to one side and escapes!
Nye fails in his attempt to clinch.
Nye looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Chaney changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Nye shoots in for a double leg but Chaney sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Chaney was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Chaney shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Nye as he jumps to the side.
Nye tries to counter by closing the distance.

Nye closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Nye breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Chaney tries to buck Nye off but Nye is having none of it.
Nye is looking to take a break and control but Chaney is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Chaney throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.

Chaney wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Nye just content to control the position.
Chaney manages to get back to half guard.
Nye has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Nye looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Chaney misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Nye moves nicely into side control.
Nye lands a nice forearm strike.
Nye cracks Chaney with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Chaney tries to control but Nye manages to take his back.
Nye not allowing Chaney to control his hands.
Nye lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Bill Nye has got the better of the ground game so far.

Nye working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Chaney is doing well to defend. Nye seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Chaney is forced to tap and this one is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:53 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Bill Nye!
