Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Pete Marquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and WhatA Surprise (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Surprise fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Marquez sprawls well initially but Surprise persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Surprise looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Marquez is looking for a sweep. Surprise is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Surprise perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Surprise wants to control but Marquez is keeping him busy.

Surprise stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Surprise tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Marquez manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Marquez changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Surprise looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Marquez throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Surprise blocks it with crossed arms.

It looks like Surprise might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Marquez could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Marquez closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Surprise did well to prevent Marquez getting side control.
Surprise has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Marquez is working away from the top position though.

Marquez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Surprise on the ground.
