The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, George Francis and Stewart Dunkirk.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dodson decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Dodson throwing shots but Smith is blocking nicely.
Dodson takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Dodson stands up from half guard.

Dodson scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Dodson decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Smith misses with a double jab.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Dodson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Smith paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Dodson doesn't manage to clinch there - Smith circles away.
Smith fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Dodson closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Smith's guard.
Dodson trying to control the position from guard on top but Smith is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Dodson postures up in Smith's guard and throws a big left but Smith blocks it.
Smith will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Dodson stands and steps away. Smith gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Smith gets caught flat footed, as Dodson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Dodson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Dodson throws an elbow that misses. Smith uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Dodson's guard. Nice move by Smith!

Dodson looking for subs off his back but Smith has passed one foot through into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dodson wants to control but Smith is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Dodson trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Smith manages to pass to mount!
Dodson tries to hold on but Smith postures up.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Dodson can do anything to dispel that myth.
Smith really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Dodson is trying to stand but he's just given Smith his back.

Smith tightening his grip on Dodson, looking for the choke.
Dodson turns into Smith and is now in his guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Smith wants to stand and escape but Dodson is having none of it.
Dodson with a flurry of punches that miss.
Dodson makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Dodson throws a big right hand that misses.

Smith preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Dodson decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Dodson looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Smith!
Dodson advances nicely into full mount.
Smith is breathing heavily.

Dodson moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Smith has worked his arm free - good work by Smith!
Dodson in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Dodson dominated that round.
That's time! Smith's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Dodson tries to clinch up.
Dodson uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Smith is rocked!

It looks like Jefferey Smith has been cut.

Dodson closes the distance looking for a takedown. Smith stuffs it but Dodson still has hold of him. Dodson picks Smith up in a fireman's lift! The crowd roars in approval. Dodson slams Smith to the floor and that's really hurt Smith - he doesn't know where he is! Dodson throws a couple of strikes and the referee steps in to save him! This one is in the books!
