PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vladimir Venger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Samson Goldstein (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Venger comes into the arena with Live and Let Die blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Vladimir Venger!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Samson Goldstein!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Richard Clark and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Goldstein throws a low kick but Venger moves out of range easily.
Venger jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Goldstein will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Venger closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Goldstein's guard.
Goldstein is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Goldstein utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Goldstein keeping moving, preventing Venger from controlling successfully.
Goldstein pulls Venger in to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Goldstein wants to sweep here but Venger controlling him for the moment.
Goldstein is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Goldstein throws a strike but Venger avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Venger has momentary wrist control but Goldstein slips an elbow through the middle.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Venger fails with a takedown attempt.

Goldstein stuffs the takedown.
Nice sprawl there from Goldstein as Venger shoots in.
Goldstein tries to counter by closing the distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vladimir Venger. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Goldstein tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Venger manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Venger takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

and Goldstein counters with a single leg into guard. Venger didn't expect that.

Goldstein stands up over Venger, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Goldstein scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Goldstein loads up on a big left hand. Venger felt that one! He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - Goldstein looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! Venger can't hide his disappointment, as Goldstein celebrates the victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Samson Goldstein!
