Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lee Pierce (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Seth Smolka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lee Pierce!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Seth Smolka!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Steve Smith and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pierce shoots in and drives through. Smolka sprawls well.
Pierce misses with a takedown attempt
and Smolka makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Smolka gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Pierce decides to pull guard.
Pierce has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Smolka has passed into side control.
Pierce tries to buck Smolka off but Smolka is having none of it.
Pierce is trying to escape the position but Smolka is controlling the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pierce struggling a bit here.
Pierce isn't going anywhere.
Smolka is looking to take a break and control but Pierce is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pierce is looking for a sweep.
Pierce takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Smolka wants to control but Pierce is keeping him busy.
Pierce manages to get back to half guard.
Ground and pound from Smolka.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Smolka is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Smolka seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Pierce does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Pierce wants to control but Smolka is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Pierce regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Smolka.
Smolka is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Pierce is pulling down on Smolka's head to control his posture.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Nice sprawl there from Smolka as Pierce shoots in.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lee Pierce. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Smolka gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Pierce counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Smolka wants to clinch

and Pierce counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Pierce.
Pierce throwing strikes but missing.
Pierce throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Smolka works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Smolka can do anything to dispel that myth.

Smolka is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Pierce is aware though and is defending well.
Smolka looks winded!

Pierce throws a big elbow that misses.
Pierce is pushing down on Smolka's leg trying to pass to half guard. Smolka is fighting to maintain full guard but Pierce has managed to sneak the leg through.
Pierce not doing much here.
Smolka is trying to control but can't.
Smolka tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Pierce has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Smolka wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Lee Pierce will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Smolka changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Pierce tries to avoid it but Smolka manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Pierce to the ground. Pierce escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Pierce fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Pierce drives through and clinches with Smolka against the cage.

Smolka manages to break the clinch.
Smolka moves out of range of the body kick from Pierce.
And Smolka tries to counter it with a takedown but Pierce pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Pierce throws a body punch but Smolka moves out of range.

Pierce closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Smolka escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Pierce is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Smolka's half guard.
Pierce not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Pierce uses his free foot to push down on Smolka's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Smolka.
Pierce trying to control but Smolka is having none of it.

Pierce is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Pierce circles away from the clinch attempt.
Lee Pierce is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Smolka keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Pierce misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Smolka gets caught flat footed, as Pierce shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Pierce stands up from Smolka's guard - Pierce perhaps looking for a knockout.

Pierce closes the distance and pushes Smolka back into the cage.

Pierce pulls guard effortlessly.

Pierce is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Smolka controls from within his opponent's guard.

Smolka trying to control the position from guard on top but Pierce is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Smolka passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.
Pierce is trying to maintain the position but Smolka is very close to passing his half guard.
Pierce punching from the bottom.
Pierce holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Pierce tries to roll over but Smolka keeps him under control.
Smolka works his way into side control.
You can see the frustration on Pierce's face as Smolka controls the position.

Pierce is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Smolka can do to turn this around?
Smolka is staying tight to Pierce's torso, preventing him from escaping.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Pierce tries to improve position but can't.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Pierce wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Pierce swings for the body but Smolka moves out of range.
The fight stays on the outside here - Smolka looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Smolka wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Pierce throws a big right hand that misses.

Pierce thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Pierce has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Smolka is proving hard to escape from.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Smolka has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Pierce can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Smolka keeping moving, preventing Pierce from controlling successfully.
Pierce slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Pierce here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Smolka is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Smolka steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Pierce.
Seth Smolka has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Lee Pierce is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Smolka throws a left and a right that both miss
and Pierce counters with a two punch combo.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Lee Pierce.
Well Pierce has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
