The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, John Mangel and Damien Edna.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Purnell looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Donovan avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Purnell.
Purnell landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Donovan is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Purnell pulls his head out easily.

Purnell stalling away here and it's allowed Donovan to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Purnell trying to control but Donovan is working from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Donovan is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Purnell wants to pass the guard but Donovan is keeping the position.
Purnell stays in close to Donovan's body and controls the position.
Donovan trying to keep a closed guard but Purnell is proving a slippery customer.
Purnell trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Purnell is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Donovan will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Donovan can't keep his opponent in guard - Purnell advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Purnell seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Donovan does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Purnell tries to pass to full mount but Donovan defends it.
Donovan tries to roll over but Purnell keeps him under control.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Purnell is putting a hurting on Donovan here, landing some big shots from side control.
Oh Donovan is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Purnell is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Purnell scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Donovan is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Purnell can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!
