PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Frederic Haley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Don Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Frederic Haley has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Frederic Haley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Don Jr!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, William Gold and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jr fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Haley, pushing him back against the cage.

Jr lands a takedown into guard.
Jr stays in close to Haley's body and controls the position.
It looks like Jr might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Jr passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Jr trying to control the action but Haley is working from the bottom.
Haley really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Jr landing strikes.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jr wants to stand but Haley is controlling his arm.
You can see the frustration on Haley's face as Jr controls the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Jr tries for a kimura but Haley is defending well.
Haley tries to bench press Jr off him but Jr keeps the position.

Jr stands up and beckons Haley to his feet.

Jr bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Jr is chipping away with strikes.
Haley is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Haley tries to roll over but Jr keeps him under control.
Jr content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Haley wants to get back to full guard.
Haley knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jr on the ground.

Jr is working for a kimura but Haley is defending it quite comfortably.
Jr wants to free his trapped foot but Haley is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Jr tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Haley.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jr prevents Haley from improving his position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Jr lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Jr is looking for a kimura but Haley is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Jr to get the leverage.
Haley controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Jr missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Jr prevents Haley from improving his position.
Jr controlling the pace.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Jr wants to take a breather but Haley is having none of it.
Haley trying to get back to full guard but Jr takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Haley is looking to get to half guard.
Jr wants to control the pace but Haley is squirming around nicely.
Jr tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jr can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Haley is looking to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Don Jr dominated that round.
That's time! Haley's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Jr gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Jr gets a trip takedown into half guard.

Jr is working for a submission of some sort.
Haley has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Jr is working away from the top position though.

Haley is looking for a sweep. Jr is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Jr has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Haley is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Jr is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Haley looking for a sweep. Not yet Haley, not yet.
Haley wants to improve his position but instead Jr has moved into half guard.
Don Jr has got the better of the ground game so far.
Jr is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Jr scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Jr is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Jr is controlling the pace.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Haley has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Jr is working away from the top position though.
Jr keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Jr fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Haley to the ground. Jr is now in Haley's guard.

Haley trying to keep a closed guard but Jr is proving a slippery customer.
Jr wants to control from the top but Haley keeps moving.

Haley looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Jr pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Haley is keeping the position for now.
Jr postures up in Haley's guard and throws a big left but Haley blocks it.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Haley lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Jr looking for a sweep. Not yet Jr, not yet.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Haley accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Don Jr showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!



Jr forces Haley back against the cage and clinches.

Jr pulls guard successfully.
Jr controlling Haley's posture.
Jr controls Haley momentarily but Haley frees himself.
Jr trying to control the position here.

Haley got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jr has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Haley has managed to get both his arms back between Jr's legs - danger averted.

Haley wants to stand but Jr is controlling his posture from full guard.

Jr working for a triangle but Haley defends it easily.
Haley not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Jr keeping moving, preventing Haley from controlling successfully.
Jr looking for a sweep. Not yet Jr, not yet.
Haley would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Haley will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Haley stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Haley closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
You can see the frustration on Jr's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Jr sneaks back into half guard.

Haley is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Jr doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Haley.
Haley seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Jr does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Haley is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Jr manages to get to full guard.
Jr seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Haley postures up and lands a big shot to Jr's brow.
Haley trying to control but Jr is working from the bottom.
Haley controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Jr lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Jr sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Haley's guard.
Haley wants to control but Jr is keeping busy.
Jr seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Haley is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Jr is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Don Jr comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Jr has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
