PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Hop Sing Jung (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Vermeer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jung comes into the arena with Jiu Jitsu blaring out of the sound system. Alexander Vermeer will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Hop Sing Jung!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Alexander Vermeer!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Michael Johnstone and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vermeer swings for the body but Jung moves out of range.
Jung misses with a body kick.
Jung takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Vermeer lands a jab.
Vermeer scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Alexander Vermeer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Vermeer misses with a double jab

and Jung counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Jung tries to free his leg and advance position but Vermeer is retaining full guard.
Jung might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Vermeer looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jung drops back looking for a leg! Vermeer is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Vermeer manages to kick Jung off! Jung jumps back into Vermeer's guard.
Jung wants to pass the guard but Vermeer is keeping the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Vermeer wants to stand and escape but Jung is having none of it.
Jung postures up.
Jung prevents Vermeer from getting back to his feet.
Vermeer is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Jung has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
Jung stands and throws Vermeer's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Jung is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Vermeer is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Jung has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Vermeer!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Vermeer can do anything to dispel that myth.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Jung is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Vermeer to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Vermeer shrugs it off.

Jung with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Jung moves to the back.

Jung has the hooks in and he's looking for a rear naked choke here. Vermeer is defending well but eventually Jung manages to get an arm under the chin and he's locked on the RNC! Vermeer has no choice but to tap now! He does! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:43 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Hop Sing Jung!
Hop Sing Jung retains his featherweight title!
