PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Charles Kota (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vesa Asikainen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Kota might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Airplanes - B.o.B ft Hayley Williams. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Charles Kota!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 16 - 0, fighting out of London, Vesa Asikainen!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kota drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Kota prevents Asikainen from escaping the position.

Kota is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Asikainen knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Asikainen wants to control but Kota postures up.
Asikainen tries to buck Kota off but Kota is having none of it.
Kota is looking to take a break and control but Asikainen is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Asikainen is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Asikainen regains half guard, as Kota was trying to land strikes.

Asikainen told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
Asikainen is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Kota postures up in Asikainen's guard and throws a big left but Asikainen blocks it.

Asikainen is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Kota is controlling him.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Asikainen is on top in guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Asikainen got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kota has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Asikainen has managed to get both his arms back between Kota's legs - danger averted.
Kota on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Kota tries to get out of the position.

Kota has his foot on Asikainen's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Asikainen works his way back into a safe position though.

Kota has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Asikainen can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Asikainen lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Kota regains full guard. Nicely done.
Kota throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Kota working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Asikainen doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Asikainen manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Asikainen slips nicely into half guard.
Asikainen seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kota does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Asikainen takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Kota is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Asikainen pulls his head out easily.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Asikainen wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kota keeps working.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Vesa Asikainen will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Kota slaps away a takedown attempt from Asikainen, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Asikainen is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kota accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Kota advances to half guard.

Kota is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Asikainen doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kota.

Asikainen makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Asikainen shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kota but Kota pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Charles Kota dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Kota is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Asikainen defends it well.

Kota tries to score with some ground and pound. Asikainen controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
You can see the frustration on Asikainen's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Kota feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Charles Kota showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Kota has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
