Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Gary Ridgway!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Simon Strange!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Richard Clark and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ridgway is looking to land body kicks.
Strange ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Ridgway moves away.
Ridgway has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Ridgway lunges at Strange with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Strange's hand.
Ridgway is trying hard to land a takedown here. Strange sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Strange listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Ridgway looks to score with a jab to the body but Strange is just out of range.
Strange displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Ridgway.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

It looked like Ridgway wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Ridgway is looking to chop away at Strange's legs.

Ridgway shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Strange eats them both and turns towards Ridgway to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Strange throws an overhand right that lands on Ridgway's shoulder, as Ridgway tries to avoid the shot.
Ridgway is looking to wear down Strange with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Nice uppercut lands for Strange. That snapped Ridgway's head back.

Strange throws an overhand right that lands on Ridgway's shoulder, as Ridgway tries to avoid the shot.
Ridgway takes a swing at Strange's ribcage but misses.
Ridgway's jab looks to have found its range, popping Strange under the eye.
Strange dives in and grabs Ridgway's left leg, looking for a takedown. Ridgway pushes down on Strange's head and hops out.
Strange tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Ridgway throws a body punch but Strange moves out of range.
Strange swings for the body but Ridgway moves out of range.
Ridgway looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Strange is fending him off so far but Ridgway persists. Nope, Strange circles away and we're back to standing.

and Strange makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Strange moves out of range as Ridgway strikes.
Gary Ridgway seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Good exchange - Ridgway coming out on top.
Ridgway throws a big shot that misses.
Ridgway throws an overhand right that lands on Strange's shoulder, as Strange tries to avoid the shot.
Strange moves away from the strike by Ridgway.
Ridgway blocks a head kick by Strange.
Ridgway misses the shot to the body.
Strange's corner calls for a 1-2. Strange obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Ridgway tries a head kick but it misses.
A little jabbing left from Strange on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Ridgway throws a jab when Strange was well out of range.
Ridgway misses with a double jab.
A telegraphed right hand from Ridgway misses the target.
Strange on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Ridgway throws a chopping leg kick but Strange manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Ridgway swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Ridgway delivers a nice body kick.
Ridgway dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Strange. That did some damage!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Gary Ridgway will probably get the nod.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Strange is still on wobbly legs! Can Ridgway finish him?

Ridgway shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Strange as he jumps to the side.
Strange seems to have recovered his senses.
Strange pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Ridgway looks to throw the jab but Strange is out of range.
Ridgway scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Strange doesn't seem bothered though.
Ridgway misses with the combination.
Strange bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Ridgway blocks a jab.
Ridgway comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Ridgway does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Strange ducks straight into an uppercut from Ridgway and tumbles to the canvas! It’s a flash knockdown though - Strange manages to regain guard straight away.


It looks like Simon Strange has been cut.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Strange working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ridgway doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ridgway manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Strange had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ridgway defends it easily.
Strange keeping moving, preventing Ridgway from controlling successfully.

A relieved looking Simon Strange thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
