PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sirius Dacke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ivan Ogard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sirius Dacke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ivan Ogard!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Illya Tyunina and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dacke darts in looking for a takedown but Ogard gets double underhooks and turns Dacke into the cage.

Dacke closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Dacke is working for a submission of some sort.

Ogard looks like he's trying to stand up.
Dacke thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Ogard's head.
Dacke tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Ogard.
Dacke has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Dacke works his way into side control.
Ogard is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Dacke has just dragged him back down to the mat.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Dacke lands a few punches from side control.
Ogard is trying to get back to his feet.
Ogard really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dacke. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Dacke tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Ogard is letting Dacke control him for a moment.
Dacke connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Ogard some visible discomfort.

Dacke wants to stand but Ogard is controlling his arm.

Dacke decides to stand back up.
Ogard avoids a kick to the body.
A clash of legs there as Dacke blocks the low kick.

Dacke clinches with his opponent.
Ogard is trying to break the clinch but Dacke has him pressed against the cage.
Dacke jumps guard but Ogard turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Ogard is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Ogard prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sirius Dacke. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Dacke is trying to pull guard but Ogard turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Dacke lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Ogard tries to kick Dacke off but Dacke keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Dacke not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Dacke tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Dacke winds up and cracks Ogard with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Dacke seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sirius Dacke dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Ogard throws a hook but Dacke blocks it.
Ogard looks to land a left hand but Dacke moved out of range nicely.
Dacke tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Ogard is able to avoid easily.

Ogard gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Dacke to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Dacke pushes down on Ogard's leg and manages to get into half guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Dacke wants to stand up but Ogard is controlling the position.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ogard throws a looping overhand right but Dacke ducks down to avoid it.
Dacke moves away from the strike by Ogard.

Dacke shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Ogard manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Dacke throws a big elbow that misses.
Dacke is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Dacke is pushing down on Ogard's leg trying to pass to half guard. Ogard is fighting to maintain full guard but Dacke has managed to sneak the leg through.
Dacke throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Dacke is looking to advance position but Ogard won't allow it.
Dacke keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Dacke wants to get back to his feet.
Dacke stalling.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Ogard avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Dacke.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Dacke here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Dacke is figuring out what he wants to do next.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Dacke moves in looking to clinch but Ogard pushes him off.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Dacke throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Dacke shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Ogard being controlled here, momentarily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sirius Dacke dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Ogard throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Dacke sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Ogard circles away from the clinch attempt.
Dacke fails to land the takedown.
Dacke tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Ogard paws at him with a jab and circles away.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Dacke is looking for a takedown.
Ogard tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Dacke tries to pull guard but Ogard holds him up against the cage and eventually Dacke drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sirius Dacke. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Dacke is looking for a takedown.
Dacke has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Ogard after a bit of a struggle.
Dacke fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Dacke is trying to pull guard but Ogard has him pressed against the cage.

Dacke is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Dacke takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Dacke stands and throws Ogard's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Dacke is trying to get an arm triangle but Ogard is defending well.

Ogard is letting Dacke control him for a moment.
Dacke cracks Ogard with a big elbow.
Dacke lands a nice forearm strike.
Dacke throws a strike aimed at the side of Ogard's head but Ogard avoids it well.
Dacke works to advance to full mount. Ogard defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Dacke takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Dacke is trying to stand up but he's being controlled by his opponent.
Ivan Ogard has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ogard should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Sirius Dacke showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Dacke, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
