PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Henry Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Greiner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Greiner has chosen August Burns Red - Spirit Breaker as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Matt Greiner has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Henry Jones!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Matt Greiner!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Colin Fray and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones avoids the head kick by Greiner.
Greiner closes this distance looking for a takedown but Jones circles away.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Jones, as that shot connected.
Jones has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Brutal Force Training in the buildup to the fight.
Greiner avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Jones sizes up Greiner with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Greiner scores with a hook to the body. Jones takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Nice defenses there by Greiner.
Nice uppercut lands for Jones. That snapped Greiner's head back.
Jones lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Greiner at a distance.
Jones wants to clinch.
Jones tries to clinch up but Greiner circles away and keeps his distance.
A little jabbing left from Greiner on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Jones dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Greiner. That did some damage!

Greiner fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Jones, pushing him back against the cage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Greiner misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Jones.

Jones creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Greiner lands with a light punch inside.
A nice right hand lands inside from Jones.
Greiner blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Jones wants to stall.
Jones throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Greiners head.

Greiner drags the fight down to the ground.
Greiner not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Greiner has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Jones is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Greiner.
Jones wants to stand but Greiner is controlling his arm.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Greiner is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Greiner has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Jones is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Greiner.

Greiner bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Greiner postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Jones has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Greiner can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That was a close round but I would say that Henry Jones will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Jones dips to his left and cracks Greiner with an uppercut!
Greiner looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.

Greiner tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Greiner drives through and clinches with Jones against the cage.
Greiner looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Greiner wants a takedown.
Greiner is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Jones is defending well.
Jones lands a knee to the body.
Jones lands a body punch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jones is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Greiner can do to turn this around?

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Jones digs a right hand underneath Greiner's ribcage. Greiner let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Jones has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Jones has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Jones is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Greiner is surviving well by controlling Jones's body position as best he can.
Greiner has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

Greiner has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Jones is working away from the top position though.

Jones is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Greiner doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Jones.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Greiner is trying to maintain a safe position but Jones gets an underhook and turns Greiner into the cage.

Greiner gets control of Jones's arms and successfully pulls guard. Greiner will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Jones tries to get the hooks in deep but Greiner pushed the leg off.
What can Greiner do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Greiner has hold of Jones's leg, trying to break free but it's let Jones lock up a rear naked choke! This could be big trouble! Greiner is turning an unusual color here… he's out! Jones throws him to one side and jumps onto the cage to celebrate with his fans.

A relieved looking Henry Jones thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
