PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gary Grice (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brandon Hale (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Grice kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is GZA - Shadowboxin'. The crowd seem to be enjoying Hale's choice of entrance music: Dead Sara - Weatherman. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 1 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 11 - 2, fighting out of Montreal, Brandon Hale!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Jorge Garcia and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Good shot there by Hale.
Hale throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Good leg kick by Hale there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Grice throws a jab when Hale was well out of range.
Grice throws the kick towards the body but Hale avoids it.
Grice thumps Hale with a low kick.
Grice tries to score with a low kick but Hale moves his leg out of the way.
Grice thows a left - swing and a miss!
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Hale! But no joy.
Hale fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Grice looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Hale connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
A looping hook to the body misses from Hale. Grice does a little dance to reset his feet.
Hale lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

and Hale counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
This has been an exciting period of action!
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Grice holds on and takes a little breather.
Grice wants to sweep here but Hale controlling him for the moment.
Hale pushes down on Grice's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Grice tries to roll over but Hale keeps him under control.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Hale thows a huge punch but Grice dodges it nicely.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Grice fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Hale manages to avoid it.

Gary Grice seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Hale will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

I would just about give that final round to Brandon Hale.
I think Hale has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

In his post fight interview, Brandon Hale started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
