Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Igor Brezlav!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Samson Nazirite!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Leandro Rodrigues and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nazirite leaves Brezlav with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Brezlav shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Nazirite wants to counter with a clinch but Brezlav pushes him away.
Nazirite keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Igor Brezlav. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Nazirite scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Brezlav shoots in looking for a takedown. Nazirite tries to sprawl out of it but Brezlav keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Nazirite manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Brezlav doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Nazirite counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nazirite defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Brezlav.
Brezlav uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Nazirite.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Nazirite has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Brezlav fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Nazirite sprawls well initially but Brezlav persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Brezlav is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nazirite trying to hold on to Brezlav's head to control him but Brezlav postures up.
Brezlav stops Nazirite from getting back to his feet.

Brezlav is looking for a kimura but Nazirite is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Brezlav to get the leverage.

Brezlav wants to work for an arm triangle but Nazirite is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Nazirite can do anything to dispel that myth.
Brezlav uses his free foot to push down on Nazirite's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Nazirite.

Brezlav has hold of Nazirite's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Nazirite manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Brezlav is working for a guillotine from mount but Nazirite frees his head quite easily.
Brezlav is looking to work his way around to Nazirite's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Brezlav is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Nazirite can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Nazirite defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Brezlav.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nazirite is trying to stand.
Brezlav lands with some strikes.
Nazirite is desperately trying to improve his position but Brezlav has a good base and remains in mount.

Brezlav is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Brezlav extends the arm and Nazirite is forced to tap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Igor Brezlav!
A relieved looking Igor Brezlav thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
