PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Craig Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). James has chosen micheal jackson beat it as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Craig Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Peter James!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Jeff Smith and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones avoids the head kick by James.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
James swings wildly with an uppercut but Jones uses good head movement to avoid it.
A nice right hand lands inside from Jones.
Jones has a couple of punches blocked by James.

James is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Jones is defending well for now.

Jones sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed James's guard.

James is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Jones scores with a couple of nice shots.

James felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Jones jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but James manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Jones has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
James is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
James is still in real trouble! Can Jones finish him?
James is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Jones has just dragged him back down to the mat.
James seems to have recovered his senses.

James fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Jones looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

James feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Joness jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Craig Jones.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Jones, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
