PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joe Strong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Amos Miguel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Amos Miguel told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Joe Strong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Amos Miguel!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Donald Grub and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Miguel tries to clinch but Strong moves out of range.
Strong definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Miguel tries to clinch but Strong moves out of range.
Miguel throws an off balance right hand
and Strong counters with a stiff right hand.
Strong swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Miguel tries to close the distance and clinch but Strong swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Strong tests Miguel's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Strong tried to score with a low kick but Miguel checks it.
Miguel wants to clinch
and Miguel takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Miguel is looking to clinch but Strong is avoiding it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Miguel pushes Strong up against the cage in a clinch.
Miguel creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.

Strong's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Strong keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Strong avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Strong scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Miguel has his takedown stuffed

and Strong counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Strong.
Miguel is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Strong to keep the fight standing.
Miguel looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Joe Strong has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Amos Miguel.
Miguel creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.

Strong breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
A solid leg kick lands there for Strong.
Amos Miguel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Strong displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Miguel.
Miguel takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Miguel pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Strong appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Strong enables Miguel to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Strong manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Miguel trying to control the position from guard on top but Strong is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Miguel wants to stand and escape but instead Strong has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Miguel holds on and takes a little breather.
Let's hope that Miguel has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Miguel controls Strong momentarily but Strong frees himself.

Strong showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Strong stands and throws Miguel's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Strong tries to advance to mount but Miguel denies him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Strong wants to lay and pray for a moment but Miguel keeps working.
Miguel sneaks back into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Strong continues to stall.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Strong dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Miguel keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Miguel shoots in looking for a takedown but Strong manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Miguel's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Strong connects with a body shot that sends Miguel's belly button to the back.
Strong lands a right hook to the body.
Miguel shoots in and drives through. Strong sprawls well.
No luck for Miguel with that takedown attempt.
Joe Strong has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Amos Miguel.

enabling Strong to counter with a crisp jab.

Strong is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

Miguel walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Strong is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Miguel can do to turn this around?
Strong blocks a head kick by Miguel.
Strong connects with a leg kick. Miguel looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Miguel walks into a left hand.
Strong throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
A jab from Strong finds it's way through Miguel's defenses.
Strong stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Strong wants it to stay on the feet.
Miguel throws a left and a right that both miss
and Strong makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Miguel really felt that one!
Miguel is breathing heavily.

Miguel wants to clinch up but Strong keeps it at a distance.
As Miguel backs away, Strong returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
Strong is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Strong scoring well with a low kick there.

Strong comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Strong delivers a nice body kick.
Strong is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Miguel throws a left and a right that both miss
and Strong counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Strong fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Miguel misses with a takedown
and Strong counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Strong clinches up against the cage.

Strong pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Joe Strong is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Strong misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Miguel.
Miguel throws a poor cross that misses
and Strong counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Strong slaps away a takedown attempt from Miguel, before circling back to the center of the mat.
As Miguel looks to move away, Strong throws a big counter combo but Miguel just gets out of the way.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Miguel gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Strong lands an overhand right.
Strong turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Miguel with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Strong to score with a decent uppercut.
Miguel tries to clinch but Strong moves away
and Strong counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Strong feints and then cracks Miguel's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Miguel down.
Strong works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Miguel takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
A big right from Miguel misses.
Miguel throws a lazy uppercut
and Strong counters with a nice uppercut.
Strong tries a low kick but Miguel avoids it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Miguel tries to clinch up
and Strong counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Strong fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Miguel.
Miguel tries for a takedown but Strong circles away easily
and Strong counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.


Miguel is rocked!
Strong drops Miguel with a straight left! Oh this is bad for Miguel! Strong dives in and starts dropping bombs - the referee has no choice but to step in and save him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Joe Strong!
After winning the bout, Joe Strong thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
