PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Gustavo Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcus Quinn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Quinn has chosen Crisis by Twista Feat. Tech N9ne as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gustavo Santos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Marcus Quinn!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Marco Blurström and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Quinn smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Santos wants to clinch up but Quinn keeps it at a distance.
Quinn throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Santos sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Santos tries to counter with a takedown but Quinn is quick to defend against it.

Santos feints and as Quinn raises his hands in defense, Santos changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Santos's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Quinn working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Santos has passed into half guard!

Santos is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Quinn has managed to free his arm - good work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Quinn is trying to get back to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Santos in particular looking to stall.
Quinn wants to control but Santos is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Quinn is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Quinn actively working from the bottom here.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Quinn has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Santos is working away from the top position though.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Santos stalling away here and it's allowed Quinn to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Quinn drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Santos manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Quinn has Santos in his guard.


Quinn looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Santos has picked Quinn up and slammed him! Quinn can't keep hold of the triangle and Santos manages to pass to side control!

Quinn is not content to let Santos control the position.
Quinn is looking for a sweep.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Santos is looking to take a break and control but Quinn is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Gustavo Santos will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Santos needs to keep his hands up - Quinn had a free shot at his head there.

Quinn fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Santos, pushing him back against the cage.

Quinn works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Santos scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Santos drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Santos here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Santos is trying to get an arm triangle but Quinn is defending well.

Santos thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Quinn manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Quinn is looking to take a break and control but Santos is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Quinn is trying to control the action in half guard but Santos is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Santos wants to improve his position but Quinn is controlling well.

Santos is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Quinn pulls his head out easily.
Santos is pressing down on Quinn's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Quinn working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Quinn is looking to work some ground and pound but Santos has wrist control.

Santos working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Quinn doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Quinn manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Quinn postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Gustavo Santos overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Quinn looking to sit in guard and control but Santos gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Quinn is staying active underneath Santos, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Quinn tries to roll over but Santos keeps him under control.

That was a close second round but I would say that Gustavo Santos will probably get the nod.

Santos is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Quinn knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Santos is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Quinn can do to turn this around?

Quinn tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Santos wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Santos has hold of Quinn's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Quinn manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Santos can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Quinn is looking to escape.
Santos is really struggling to control Quinn but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Santos, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
