Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ola John (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Timo Vesala (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vesala has chosen Bomfunk MC's - Freestyler as his entrance music. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Ola John!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Timo Vesala!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Frank Dennis and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vesala avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
John tries to clinch up
and Vesala counters with a stiff right hand.
John is looking to clinch but Vesala is avoiding it.
Vesala throws out a counter right but John avoids it with no problem.
John does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
John misses with a few strikes there.
John throws a jab when Vesala was well out of range.
Vesala throws a jab but it's blocked by John.
John is looking for a counter combo.
Vesala misses the jab.
John moves out of range of the strikes.
Ola John seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
John throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
John tries to clinch but Vesala moves out of range.
John loads up on a big right hand but Vesala slips the punch.

John closes the distance and pushes Vesala back into the cage.
John has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Vesala is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Vesala is trying to drag John to the mat but John just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
John jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Vesala walks away with a smile on his face. John gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Vesala shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts John as he jumps to the side.
Vesala circles away from the clinch attempt.

John has Vesala up against the cage in a clinch.
We've been informed that Vesala has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Vesala drops to a knee looking for a takedown but John gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Ola John has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Timo Vesala.

Vesala is looking for a takedown.
Vesala lands with a short head shot on the inside.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

John's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
John shoots in for a takedown but Vesala shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Vesala throws a counter combo.
We've been told by John's head coaches at The Highland Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
John will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
John throws a leg kick but Vesala moved away.
Vesala throws a right and a left that both miss.
John throws a quick counter kick to the body but Vesala avoids it.
John tries to clinch up but Vesala circles away and keeps his distance.
Vesala changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
John walks into a stiff left hand from Vesala.
John fails with an attempt to clinch.
John fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
It seemed like Vesala was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
John avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
A punch combination from Vesala misses.
John shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Vesala pinned against the cage. Vesala gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Vesala steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from John.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
John tries to clinch there but Vesala circles away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
John fakes the leg kick and cracks Vesala in the body.
Vesala is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by John.
John closes the distance looking to clinch
and Vesala counters with a straight right hand.
John shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
John closes the distance and clinches up with Vesala, looking for a takedown. John pushes Vesala against the cage but Vesala circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
A little jabbing left from Vesala on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
John shoots for a double leg takedown but Vesala sprawls well. He's pushed John's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Vesala throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Vesala gets a takedown into half guard.
John is not content to let Vesala control the position.
John wants to improve his position but Vesala is controlling well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Vesala frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Vesala trying to control but he's not successful this time.
John is wriggling around trying to escape.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Vesala takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
John is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Vesala goes for an armbar but he's not got it… John turns into him and now he's in Vesala's guard.

Vesala pushes a forearm under John's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, John is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Timo Vesala!
A very excited looking Timo Vesala made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
