Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jim Ryun!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Askles Garcia!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Bart Greer and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Garcia shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Garcia misses with a straight left.
Ryun throws a solid leg kick but Garcia takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Ryun.
Ryun defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Garcia.
Ryun shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Garcia as he jumps to the side.
Garcia has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Ryun is landing a low percentage of strikes.

Ryun dives in and scores a takedown into Garcia's guard.
Ryun postures up in Garcia's guard and throws a big left but Garcia blocks it.
Ryun scoring with punches to the head and body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Garcia wants to stand but Ryun is controlling the position.
Ryun passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Garcia is trying to improve his position.

Ryun working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Garcia tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Ryun wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Ryun thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ryun wants to lay and pray for a moment but Garcia keeps working.
Ryun is really struggling to control Garcia but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Ryun definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Garcia tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Garcia bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Ryun throws a leg kick
and Garcia makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Ryun really felt that one!
Ryun has a takedown stuffed.
Garcia scores with a head kick. Ryun tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

Ryun throws a looping overhand right but Garcia ducks down to avoid it.
A low kick from Ryun misses
and Garcia counters with a two punch combo.
Ryun lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Ryun.
Garcia tries to bum rush Ryun with a series of wild strikes but Ryun uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Ryun appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Ryun tries to clinch up.

Ryun gets caught napping as Garcia dives in and scores a takedown. Ryun manages to retain guard.

Ryun is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Garcia presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Ryun throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Ryun shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Garcia as he avoids it easily.
Ryun throws a nice looking combination but Garcia bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Garcia drives through and clinches with Ryun against the cage.
Ryun has a couple of punches blocked by Garcia.
A head punch on the inside from Ryun fails to land.

Ryun breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Ryun tries to clinch but Garcia moves out of range.
Askles Garcia seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jim Ryun will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Ryun slaps away a takedown attempt from Garcia, before circling back to the center of the mat.
As Garcia looks to move away, Ryun throws a big counter combo but Garcia just gets out of the way.
Garcia fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Ryun looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Ryun fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Garcia throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.


It looks like Jim Ryun has been cut.
Ryun lands a jab-cross combination.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Garcia throws a head kick that Ryun semi-blocks.

Garcia clinches.

Ryun has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Garcia uses from the top position.

Ryun working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Garcia doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Garcia manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Garcia accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Ryun is working an open guard so Garcia takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Jim Ryun is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Ryun tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Garcia throws a counter combo.
Nice sprawl there from Ryun as Garcia shoots in.
Ryun tests Garcia's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Ryun does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Garcia shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Ryun sprawls well. Ryun wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Garcia gets slowly back to his feet.

and Ryun counters with a right hand to the body.
Garcia goes for a double leg but Ryun avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Ryun continues to drive forward.

Ryun clinches with his opponent.
Garcia wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Still in the clinch, Ryun scores with a nice short uppercut.
Ryun fails to pull guard.
Ryun throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Ryun lands a body punch in the clinch.
Ryun has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Ryun wants to break the clinch but can't.

Ryun ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Ryun no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Ryun manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Ryun is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Ryun throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Garcia works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Garcia displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Ryun.

Garcia tries to clinch up but Ryun circles away and keeps his distance.

Ryun lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Garcia.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


No joy there for Ryun, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Garcia closes the distance and clinches.
Garcia digs a right hand into Ryun's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Ryun's gas tank.

Ryun has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Garcia after a bit of a struggle.

Ryun has his foot on Garcia's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Garcia works his way back into a safe position though.

Garcia shoots for a takedown but Ryun saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Askles Garcia seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.
Ryun trying to control the position but instead, Garcia has worked for underhooks and has pushed Ryun into the cage.
Jim Ryun is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Garcia has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Ryun is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Ryun throws a leg kick which misses Garcia's front leg but catches the back leg as Garcia tries to avoid it.

Ryun shoots in looking for a takedown. Garcia tries to sprawl out of it but Ryun keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Garcia manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jim Ryun.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Ryun, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
