PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Yordan Andonov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bamidele Abimbola (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Abimbola has chosen African Warrior as his entrance music. Bamidele Abimbola told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Yordan Andonov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Bamidele Abimbola!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Vladimir Khabensky and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Abimbola shoots in looking for a takedown. Andonov tries to sprawl out of it but Abimbola keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Andonov manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Andonov appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Abimbola fails in his attempt to clinch.
Andonov tries to counter with a takedown but Abimbola is quick to defend against it.
Abimbola displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Andonov.
Abimbola keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Abimbola lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Andonov backs up against the cage.
Abimbola throws a combination. Andonov tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Abimbola lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Abimbola tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Andonov manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

and Abimbola counters with a two punch combo.

Abimbola has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Andonov is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Abimbola changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Andonov looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Andonov is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Abimbola is controlling him well.

Andonov has been working on his balance at Wolves Den $200 Elite Circuits, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Abimbola.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Andonov connects with a nice short shot to Abimbola's temple.

Andonov is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Andonov lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Abimbola is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Andonov pulls his head out easily.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Andonov knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Abimbola on the ground.

Andonov is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Abimbola is looking for a sweep. Andonov is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Some bone on bone action there as Andonov checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Andonov is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Abimbola's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Abimbola's back!

Oooh a big shot gets through from Andonov. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!

Andonov drops a couple of huge strikes from the back position and Abimbola is in real trouble here! Andonov lands more strikes and the referee has to step in to end the fight! Andonov is delighted!

In his post fight interview, Yordan Andonov started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
