The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ronnel misses with a left hand
and Briggs counters with a straight right hand.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Ronnel is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Ronnel is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Briggs is just riding it out for now. Ronnel eventually gives up the hold.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Ronnel drops back, looking for a kneebar! Briggs looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Briggs looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Briggs!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Briggs tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Briggs has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Ronnel drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Briggs manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Ronnel has Briggs in his guard.

Briggs wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Ronnel's closed guard. He's half up but Ronnel has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Ronnel pivots and extends the arm, Briggs falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Ronnel! Well done that man!
