PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Maximus Scott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gregory Scarpa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Scott comes to the cage accompanied by Wildboy. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 37 - 19 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Maximus Scott!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gregory Scarpa!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, John Mangel and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Scott loads up on a big right hand but Scarpa slips the punch.
Scott lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Scarpa moves forwards but Scott connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Scarpa tries to keep at a distance but Scott has taken the fight into the clinch.
Scott slows down the pace here.
Scarpa pushes Scott back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.


It looks like Maximus Scott has been cut.
Scarpa lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Scott is trying to break the clinch but Scarpa has him pressed against the cage.
Scarpa misses with a shot to the kidneys.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Scarpa is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Scott gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Scarpa lands a shoulder strike.
Scott is trying to break the clinch but Scarpa is controlling him.
Scarpa has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Scott is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Scott pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Scarpa tries for a takedown but Scott sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
A little feinted left hand from Scott on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Maximus Scott has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gregory Scarpa.
Scarpa dives in and grabs Scott's left leg, looking for a takedown. Scott pushes down on Scarpa's head and hops out.

Scarpa takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Scarpa takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Maximus Scott seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Scarpa shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Scott is trying to defend but Scarpa finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Scott looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Scarpa drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Scott dives on top into guard.

Scott is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Scott prevents Scarpa from improving his position.

Scarpa is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Scott pulls his head out easily.

Scott tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

Scarpa gets full guard.
Scott would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Scarpa is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Scarpa defending well as Scott loads up on a big left hand.
Scott connects with a jab.

Scott fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Scarpa, pushing him back against the cage.
Scarpa lands a shoulder strike.
Scott wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Scarpa is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Scott pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Scott escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Scott connects with a nice looking jab.
Maximus Scott is winning the standup battle so far.
Scott misses with a hook.
Scott stuffs the takedown.
A big right from Scott misses.
Scarpa tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A telegraphed right hand from Scott misses the target.
Scarpa lands with a right hand.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Scott enables Scarpa to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Scott manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Scarpa wants to control from the top but Scott keeps moving.
Scarpa in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Scarpa looking to sit in guard and control but Scott gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Scott tries to free his leg and advance position but Scarpa is retaining full guard.
Maximus Scott overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Scarpa tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Scott trying to stand up but can't free himself from Scarpa's guard.

Scarpa has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Scott can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Scarpa is trying to keep Scott in close.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Scarpa is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Scott wants to get up but he can't break Scarpa's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Scott trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Scarpa fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Scott to the ground. Scarpa is now in Scott's guard.

Scott is looking to stand up but Scarpa isn't so interested in that idea.
Scarpa slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Scott is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Scarpa can do to turn this around?

Scarpa drops back, looking for a kneebar! Scott looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Scott looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Scott!

Scott wants to control but Scarpa is keeping him busy.
Scarpa tries to strike from the bottom but misses.

Scarpa is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Scarpa shoots for a double leg takedown but Scott sprawls well. He's pushed Scarpa's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

And Scarpa tries to counter it with a takedown but Scott pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Maximus Scott is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Scarpa tries to score a power double leg takedown but Scott sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Scarpa somewhat.

Scott is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Scott lands a big uppercut and Scarpa crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Scarpa looks OK. Scott waves Scarpa back to his feet!

Scott throws a hook but Scarpa avoids it easily.

Scott drops Scarpa with a straight right hand, right on the button! Scott follows him down to the mat and pounds him out with hammerfists until the referee jumps in to end the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:07 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Maximus Scott!
An out of breath Maximus Scott thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
