PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Benjamin Belleville (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dave Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Dave Johnson was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 30 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Benjamin Belleville!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dave Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Paulsen Ambrosius and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Belleville gets caught flat footed, as Johnson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Johnson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Belleville wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Belleville's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Johnson in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Belleville is controlling Johnson's posture.
Belleville manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Johnson manages to get himself to full guard.

Johnson has momentary wrist control but Belleville slips an elbow through the middle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Belleville stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Johnson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Belleville content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Belleville won't allow Johnson to sweep him here.
Belleville is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at [LOD]Berlin Giants that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
Johnson doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Belleville slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Johnson.
Belleville working over Johnson with some ground and pound. Johnson looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Belleville looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Johnson with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Belleville seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Johnson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Belleville lands with a punch from half guard.
Belleville landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Belleville seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Johnson missing with punches from the bottom.
Johnson misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Johnson throws a sloppy strike from the bottom. He's now off balance and Belleville manages to pass to side control.

Belleville tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Belleville scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Johnson to see if he's OK.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Johnson wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.
Johnson tries to strike from the bottom but misses.
Belleville is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Johnson's shoulder. That is not cool.
Johnson tries to strike but it doesn't land.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Belleville has hold of Johnson's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Johnson seems comfortable defending it but Belleville has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Johnson is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Johnson is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Belleville couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Benjamin Belleville!
An out of breath Benjamin Belleville thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
