PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Sum Yung Gai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juan Tamad (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tamad is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by The Joker. Sum Yung Gai had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sum Yung Gai!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 26 - 1, fighting out of London, Juan Tamad!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Alec Ball and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gai throws a head kick but Tamad moves out of range.
A head kick misses from Gai.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Gai presses Tamad against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.

Gai breaks from the clinch.
Gai throws a sloppy head kick and Tamad moves out of range easily.
Tamad needs to keep his hands up - Gai had a free shot at his head there.

Gai closes the distance and clinches.
Tamad's coach down at ~T~ Troid - Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Tamad's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
A right hook to the body lands for Tamad.

Gai breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Gai looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Tamad clinches up with Gai and pushes him back against the cage.
Tamad struggles to land a body shot inside as Gai controls his hands.
Tamad throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Gais head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Gai jumps guard and drags Tamad to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Gai utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Tamad is fighting to break Gai's control of his arms but Gai is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Tamad postures up in Gai's guard and throws a big left but Gai blocks it.

Gai is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Tamad is looking to work some ground and pound but Gai has wrist control.
Tamad looking to sit in guard and control but Gai gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Tamad looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gai is one step ahead there.

Gai drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gai jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Tamad wants to sweep here but Gai controlling him for the moment.
Tamad manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Gai manages to get himself to full guard.

Gai is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Tamad has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Tamad stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gai swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Gai is trying to control the position from the bottom.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Tamad seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Tamad paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Gai connects with a body shot that sends Tamad's belly button to the back.

Tamad throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Gai on the side of the head.
Tamad takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Gai tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Tamad manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Tamad drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Gai defends it well.
Tamad misses with a low kick.
Gai tries to close the distance and clinch but Tamad swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Tamad uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Gai.
Tamad throws a push kick but Gai slaps the foot to one side.

Gai tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Tamad.

Gai's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gai is on top in guard.

Gai stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tamad swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Gai might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

That was a close second round but I would say that Sum Yung Gai will probably get the nod.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Tamad accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Tamad throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.

and Tamad counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Gai!
Juan Tamad has got the better of the ground game so far.
Tamad lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Gai down.

Tamad creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Gai sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Gai parries the strikes from Tamad easily there. Tamad is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Gai to escape.

Tamad misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Juan Tamad comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Tamad has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
