PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cain Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kenta Yuudai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Velasquez comes to the cage accompanied by Kryptonite. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Cain Velasquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kenta Yuudai!
The judges for this bout are Topper Green, Chris Dean and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yuudai throws a shot from downtown. Velasquez moves away and avoids it.
Yuudai loads up on a big right hand but Velasquez slips the punch.
Velasquez goes for a double leg but Yuudai avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Yuudai continues to drive forward.

Velasquez bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Yuudai looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Yuudai is looking to reverse the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Velasquez in side control lands a decent elbow.
Velasquez controls the position from side control.
Velasquez throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Velasquez in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Yuudai is holding Velasquez down, trying to stall.
Yuudai dodges the ground and pound from Velasquez.
Yuudai is looking to regain half guard here but Velasquez keeps moving and retains side control.
Yuudai is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Yuudai is looking to improve his position.
Yuudai moves into full guard.

Yuudai has his foot on Velasquez's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Velasquez works his way back into a safe position though.

Yuudai looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Yuudai pushes Velasquez off and scrambles back to his feet.
Velasquez has been working on his balance at Super SmashBros., so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Yuudai.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Velasquez.

Velasquez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Yuudai sprawls well. Yuudai wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Velasquez gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cain Velasquez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Velasquez shoots in for a takedown but Yuudai shows good takedown defense.
Kenta Yuudai seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Velasquez lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.

Velasquez feints and as Yuudai raises his hands in defense, Velasquez changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Velasquez postures up and lands a big shot to Yuudai's brow.

Yuudai is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Yuudai utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Yuudai working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Velasquez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Velasquez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Velasquez tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Yuudai takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Velasquez creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Velasquez wants to control but Yuudai is keeping him busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Yuudai manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Cain Velasquez will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Yuudai scores with a one two! Velasquez had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.


It looks like Cain Velasquez has been cut.
Yuudai bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Velasquez's head backwards.

Velasquez drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Yuudai not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Velasquez postures up in Yuudai's guard and throws a big left but Yuudai blocks it.

Velasquez is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Velasquez scoring with punches to the head and body.
Velasquez trying to control the position from guard on top but Yuudai is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Yuudai throws his legs up looking for a submission but Velasquez uses it to pass to side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Yuudai tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Yuudai takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Velasquez grinds an elbow into Yuudai's temple.
Velasquez lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Yuudai down.


Yuudai is rocked!
A big shot lands for Velasquez! That's hurt Yuudai! Will he recover? Velasquez fires away with more strikes and the referee has to step in to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:48 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Cain Velasquez!
A relieved looking Cain Velasquez thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
