The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McDonnell tries to land a front kick but Cree steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Cree walks forward, straight into a front kick from McDonnell.
A head kick by McDonnell misses
and Cree counters with a shoot takedown. McDonnell fights it but they end up in guard.
Cree slips nicely into half guard.
Cree lands strikes from half guard.
Cree working McDonnell over with strikes.
Cree seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Cree has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
