Niss drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Cruz dives on top into guard.

Cruz wants to pass the guard but Niss is keeping the position.

Niss is looking for a triangle but Cruz pushes his legs off easily.

Niss is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Cruz is aware though and is defending well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cruz drops back, looking for a kneebar! Niss looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Niss looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Niss!

Niss wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Cruz, who protects the arm well.

Niss working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Niss thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Niss looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Niss is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Cruz has escaped the position, nice work there.

Niss goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Cruz has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Niss but great work by Cruz.

Cruz is trying to get an arm triangle but Niss is defending well.
Cruz moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Cruz advances to full mount.

Cruz prevents Niss from getting the reversal.
Niss wants to control but Cruz is having none of it.
Cruz is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Niss is working to get back to half guard.

Cruz moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Niss has worked his arm free - good work by Niss!

Niss holds on to Cruz's head and controls the position momentarily.
Niss is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Niss is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Cruz off and has taken his back!

Cruz is in a bad position with Niss working for a choke. Cruz manages to spin nicely into guard and the danger is over for the moment.

Cruz looking to improve position, pressing down on Niss's thigh with his hand. Niss seems to be working to lock up a guilotine though... is Cruz paying attention? Apparently not! He's locked it up tight! Cruz's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Niss picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!
