PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Nate Freeman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Miilo Nurkkanen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Freeman's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Old Firm Casuals - Better start running. Nurkkanen has chosen When im gone remixed by DJ Darkjuice as his entrance music. Nate Freeman has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Nate Freeman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Miilo Nurkkanen!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Anni Minnemäki and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nurkkanen shoots in but Freeman avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Nurkkanen shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Freeman pinned against the cage. Freeman gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Nurkkanen shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Freeman as he jumps to the side.
Nate Freeman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Miilo Nurkkanen.
Nurkkanen changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Freeman tries to avoid it but Nurkkanen manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Freeman to the ground. Freeman escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Freeman throws a hook but Nurkkanen avoids it easily.
Nurkkanen fails with the takedown
and Freeman counters with a stiff right hand.

Nurkkanen closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Freeman to the mat! Freeman manages to get full guard.
Freeman wants to get back to his feet but Nurkkanen passes into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Nurkkanen slows the pace down in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Nurkkanen seems to be looking for submissions.
Freeman is trying to get back to full guard.
Nurkkanen content to control rather than advance.
Nurkkanen trying to pass the guard but Freeman defending well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Well, if Nurkkanen is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
It looks like Nurkkanen might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Let's hope that Nurkkanen has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Nurkkanen is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Freeman is just riding it out for now. Nurkkanen eventually gives up the hold.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nurkkanen wants to free his trapped foot but Freeman is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Freeman wants to control but Nurkkanen is keeping busy.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Nurkkanen controlling the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Nurkkanen tries for a takedown but Freeman sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Nurkkanen misses with a takedown attempt - Freeman sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Freeman looks to land a combination. Nurkkanen sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Miilo Nurkkanen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Nurkkanen tries for a takedown but Freeman circles away easily
and Freeman counters with a straight right hand.
Nurkkanen dives in and grabs Freeman's left leg, looking for a takedown. Freeman pushes down on Nurkkanen's head and hops out.
Freeman seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Nurkkanen misses with a takedown
and Freeman counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Freeman lands with a shot to the body.
Freeman scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Nurkkanen shoots and misses
and Freeman counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Nurkkanen closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Nurkkanen seems to be looking for submissions.
Nurkkanen tries to pass the half guard into mount. Freeman knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nate Freeman dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Freeman throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Nurkkanen has his takedown stuffed
letting Freeman counter with a right hand.
Freeman swinging wildly here.
Freeman scores with the left hand. Nurkkanen knows he should have avoided that one.
Freeman thuds his right hand into Nurkkanen's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Freeman drops Nurkkanen with a left and a right! Oh, Nurkkanen is hurt - Freeman dives into side control looking to finish!


Nurkkanen is rocked!


It looks like Miilo Nurkkanen has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Freeman decides to stand back up. Freeman steps back and let's Nurkkanen get back to his feet.
Nurkkanen is still on wobbly legs! Can Freeman finish him?
Freeman measures up his opponent and throws a superman punch that connects to the jaw! Down goes Nurkkanen! The ref steps in, and that's the ball game folks!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Superman Punch). Nate Freeman!
Nate Freeman decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
