Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Roman Russo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hank Chinaski Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Roman Russo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hank Chinaski Jr!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Reed Andrews and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Russo shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Chinaski Jr is trying to defend but Russo finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Chinaski Jr should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Russo stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Chinaski Jr to get to his feet.

Russo closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Russo working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Chinaski Jr is looking for a sweep. Russo is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Russo looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Russo winds up and cracks Chinaski Jr with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Russo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Chinaski Jr can do anything to dispel that myth.
Russo wants to stand but Chinaski Jr has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Russo wants to pass the guard but Chinaski Jr is defending well.
Chinaski Jr has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Russo is working away from the top position though.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Russo in particular looking to stall.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Russo lands a nice short elbow.
Chinaski Jr wants to control but Russo is keeping busy.
Russo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Chinaski Jr keeps working.
Chinaski Jr is trying to maintain the position but Russo is very close to passing his half guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Russo digs a good hook to Chinaski Jr's body.
Chinaski Jr dives in and grabs Russo's left leg, looking for a takedown. Russo pushes down on Chinaski Jr's head and hops out.
And Russo counters with a quick kick to the body but Chinaski Jr blocks it.
Russo throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.


It looks like Hank Chinaski Jr has been cut.
Russo will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Russo fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
As Russo backs off Chinaski Jr throws a huge counter combo but Russo manages to avoid it all.
Chinaski Jr defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Russo.
Russo misses with a takedown attempt - Chinaski Jr sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Roman Russo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Chinaski Jr tries for a takedown but Russo sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Russo tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Russo fails with a takedown attempt.
Russo is breathing heavily.
Chinaski Jr shoots in looking for a takedown. Russo tries to sprawl out of it but Chinaski Jr keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Russo manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Chinaski Jr tries a head kick but it misses.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Russo shoots for a takedown but Chinaski Jr saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Chinaski Jr fails to land the takedown.
Chinaski Jr misses with a hook. Russo ducked under it nicely.
Chinaski Jr looks to score with a jab to the body but Russo is just out of range.

Russo throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Chinaski Jr was covering up waiting for the punch and Russo finishes the takedown easily into guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Russo is in close to Chinaski Jr's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Chinaski Jr looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Chinaski Jr is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Russo drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Russo jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Russo thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Chinaski Jr has momentary wrist control but Russo slips an elbow through the middle.
Russo is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Chinaski Jr can do to turn this around?

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Russo in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Chinaski Jr tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Russo!
