The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Garner uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Bieber.

Garner shoots for a double leg takedown but Bieber sprawls well. He's pushed Garner's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

and Garner counters with a nice double leg into side control. Bieber won't be happy with that.

Garner has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Bieber has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Garner seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Bieber for as long as he can get away with.

Garner really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Garner is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Bieber is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
