PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jim Suarez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mcgregor Conor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jim Suarez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mcgregor Conor!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Jonathan Paton and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Conor.
Suarez throws a big counter combination but Conor scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

and Suarez counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Suarez clinches with his opponent.
Conor misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Suarez.
Conor misses with an elbow strike.
Conor crunches a lovely knee into Suarez's ribcage.

Conor doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Suarez gets control of Conor's arms and successfully pulls guard. Suarez will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Conor throws a big elbow that misses.

Suarez is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Conor presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Conor tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Suarez avoids it.
Suarez lands a good knee to the midsection. Conor won't want to take too many of those.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Suarez is controlling the pace.
Conor is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Suarez seems to be working for a kimura but Conor defends the submission attempt.

Suarez prevents Conor from improving his position.
Suarez is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Suarez takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Suarez blocks a jab.
Suarez takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Mcgregor Conor seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Conor tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Suarez counters with a left and a right that stings Conor.
Suarez is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Conor.

Conor misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Mcgregor Conor is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Conor tries to bum rush Suarez with a series of wild strikes but Suarez uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Conor looks to land a body kick but Suarez moved away.
Suarez tries to counter by clinching up but Conor breaks away and moves out of range.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Conor gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Suarez to score an easy takedown into full guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Suarez slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Conor is trying to control the position but Suarez postures up.
Conor is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Conor throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jim Suarez will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

and Suarez counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Suarez.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Suarez has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Jim Suarez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Suarez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Conor's waist but Conor gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Suarez off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jim Suarez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
No joy there for Conor, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Conor is breathing heavily.

Suarez could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Conor throws a nice looking combination but Suarez bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Conor misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Suarez throws a quick counter kick to the body but Conor avoids it.
The fight stays on the outside here - Suarez looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Suarez goes for a double leg but Conor avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Conor continues to drive forward.

Conor stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Conor wants it to stay on the feet.

Suarez seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Conor for as long as he can get away with.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Conor feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Suarezs jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Mcgregor Conor seems to be getting the better of the standup.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Conor goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Conor misses with a double jab.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mcgregor Conor showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Suarez's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Suarez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Conor tries to avoid it but Suarez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Conor to the ground. Conor escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

and Suarez holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
A nice right hand lands inside from Conor.
Conor gets underhooks to prevent Suarez's takedown attempt.

Conor tries to throw a body punch but Suarez avoids it by throwing Conor back against the cage.

We've been informed that Conor has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jim Suarez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Suarez blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Suarez will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Conor up against the cage.

Suarez ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Suarez no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Conor throws an elbow that misses. Suarez uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Conor's guard. Nice move by Suarez!

Suarez cracks Conor with a big right hand but Conor just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Conor tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Suarez easily slips into full mount!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Conor is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Conor is trying to escape the mount.
Suarez tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Suarez with a couple of short strikes.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Suarez avoids the attempt from Conor to control.
Conor sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jim Suarez showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Suarez has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
