PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bobby Pokka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Troy Resic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Troy Resic struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 206.2lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Bobby Pokka has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Bobby Pokka!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Troy Resic!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Santiago Holmes and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pokka fails to land the takedown.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Resic. Pokka shrugs it off though.
Resic throws a hook to the side of Pokka's head but Pokka sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Resic throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Pokka swats away the attempt to clinch by Resic.
Pokka lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Resic tries for a takedown but Pokka circles away easily
letting Pokka counter with a right hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pokka shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Resic defends it nicely.
Resic throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Pokka looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Resic takes the fight into the clinch.

Resic jumps guard and drags Pokka to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Pokka not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Pokka stands up and waves to Resic to follow him.
Pokka will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Resic has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Resic goes for a double leg but Pokka avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Pokka continues to drive forward.
Pokka appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
Pokka uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Resic.
Resic feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Pokka's calf.

Resic drives through and clinches with Pokka against the cage.
Resic pushes off an throws an elbow but Pokka leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Pokka looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Resic stalling in the clinch.
Resic is trying to break the clinch but Pokka is controlling him.

Resic breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Resic looks winded!
Resic stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Resic wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bobby Pokka. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Resic shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Pokka counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.


It looks like Troy Resic has been cut.
Pokka misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Resic fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Pokka avoids it really well and circles away.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Pokka dives in for a single leg takedown but Resic sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Pokka shoots in for a takedown but Resic shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Pokka takes a kick to the side of the head.
Pokka shoots for a double leg takedown but Resic sprawls well. He's pushed Pokka's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Pokka closes the distance and pushes Resic back into the cage.
Pokka wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Pokka pulls guard.
Resic trying to stand up but can't free himself from Pokka's guard.

Pokka looking for a guillotine here but Resic defends easily.

Pokka has Resic pulled in close to control his posture.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Resic wants to control from the top but Pokka keeps moving.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Troy Resic dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Troy Resic's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Pokka throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Resic fails with the takedown

and Pokka holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Resic is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Pokka tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Resic just stands there and leans against the cage.

Resic jumps guard.

Resic has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Pokka can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Pokka controlling from the top position.
Resic is breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pokka won't allow Resic to sweep him here.

Pokka missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Resic working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pokka doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pokka manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Resic is working an open guard so Pokka takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Resic moves in looking to clinch but Pokka pushes him off.

Resic tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Bobby Pokka has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Troy Resic.
Pokka is pressed up against the cage. Resic has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Pokka down to the mat. Pokka avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Resic takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Pokka pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Pokka clinches.

Pokka pulls guard effortlessly.
Pokka trying to control the position.

Pokka has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Resic off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Pokka shoots in looking for a takedown but Resic manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Pokka's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Pokka looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Pokka gets control of Resic's arms and successfully pulls guard. Pokka will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Pokka has his foot on Resic's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Resic works his way back into a safe position though.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Pokka is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Resic has closed the distance and engaged Pokka in a clinch.

Pokka jumps guard.
Pokka trying to control the position.
Resic trying to control the position from guard on top but Pokka is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Pokka wants to control but Resic passes easily into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Pokka tries to score a power double leg takedown but Resic sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Pokka somewhat.
Pokka stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Pokka wants it to stay on the feet.

Bobby Pokka is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Pokka misses with a head kick.
Pokka slaps away a takedown attempt from Resic, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Pokka is looking to counter with a shot to the body.

Pokka escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Resic gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Pokka uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Pokka breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Pokka closes the distance and clinches up with Resic, looking for a takedown. Pokka pushes Resic against the cage but Resic circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Resic throws a counter combo.

Pokka gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Resic gets underhooks to prevent Pokka's takedown attempt.
Pokka is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Resic can do to turn this around?
Pokka has Resic pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Resic manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Resic is trying to drag Pokka to the mat but Pokka just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Resic throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Pokka works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Resic postures up.
Pokka trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Resic tries to free his leg and advance position but Pokka is retaining full guard.
Pokka throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Pokka wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Resic tries to stand but Pokka is controlling from the bottom.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Resic fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Pokka appears to be looking for a big counter.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bobby Pokka showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Pokka has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
