PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Louis Puckett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Makwan Amirikani (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Louis Puckett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Makwan Amirikani!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Arvi Lind and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A big right from Amirikani misses.

Amirikani closes the distance and clinches.
Puckett dodges an elbow strike from Amirikani.
The referee is keeping an eye on Amirikani - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Amirikani shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Puckett has a closed guard, preventing Amirikani from standing up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Puckett is looking for a triangle here but Amirikani uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Puckett throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.

Amirikani tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Puckett knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Amirikani on the ground.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Puckett postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Amirikani is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Puckett, into his guard.

Puckett will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Amirikani slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Amirikani's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Amirikani slips nicely into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Amirikani shoots and misses
and Puckett counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Louis Puckett is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Amirikani darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Puckett manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Amirikani keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Puckett accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Amirikani controls Puckett momentarily but Puckett frees himself.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Amirikani clinches up against the cage.
Amirikani has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Puckett is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Amirikani is defending well.
Puckett on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Amirikani fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Amirikani is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Amirikani gets control of Puckett's arms and successfully pulls guard. Amirikani will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Makwan Amirikani showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Amirikani wants the takedown. Puckett is fighting it off but Amirikani persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Puckett's guard against the cage.

Amirikani stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Puckett swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Amirikani is pushing down on Puckett's leg trying to pass to half guard. Puckett is fighting to maintain full guard but Amirikani has managed to sneak the leg through.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Amirikani is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Puckett is just riding it out for now. Amirikani eventually gives up the hold.

Puckett really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Amirikani wants to take Puckett's back but he can't do it this time.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Amirikani wants to control the pace but Puckett is squirming around nicely.
Louis Puckett has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Makwan Amirikani is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Makwan Amirikani comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Amirikani has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
