The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mello feints and as Novo raises his hands in defense, Mello changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Mello is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Mello throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Novo works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Mello stands up over Novo, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mello is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Mello has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Mello throws a big right hand that misses.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mello tries to score a power double leg takedown but Novo sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mello somewhat.
Oh Mello is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
