PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Herminio Herculano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Richard Machan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Herminio Herculano!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Richard Machan!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Sandra Marshall and Peter Branson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Machan changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Herculano tries to avoid it but Machan manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Herculano to the ground. Herculano escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Herculano tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Machan manages to circle out of the way.
Machan dives in and grabs Herculano's left leg, looking for a takedown. Herculano pushes down on Machan's head and hops out.
Herculano is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Machan.
Machan throws a hook but Herculano blocks it.
Machan throws a right hand that misses
and Herculano counters with a nice uppercut.
Machan gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Herculano makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Herminio Herculano has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Richard Machan.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Machan fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Herculano is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Machan.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Machan tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Herculano defends well and Machan ends up having to push Herculano into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

and Herculano counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
It looks like Richard Machan has been cut.
Machan misses with a straight left.
As Machan tries to get set, Herculano tries to push him back and clinch up but Machan manages to avoid the attempt.
Machan shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Machan was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Machan is trying to get an arm triangle but Herculano is defending well.
Machan scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Herculano to see if he's OK.
Machan fails to land a wild elbow strike.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Machan working his ground and pound in the gym.
Machan in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Herculano is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Richard Machan!
A relieved looking Richard Machan thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
