PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chev Chelios (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Damian Nitschke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chelios comes to the cage accompanied by In Waves. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 45 - 19 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Chev Chelios!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 36 - 26 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Damian Nitschke!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Eliza Hachem and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Good exchange - Chelios coming out on top.


It looks like Damian Nitschke has been cut.
Chelios fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Chelios fails in his attempt to clinch.
Chelios looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Nitschke lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Chelios at a distance.
Nitschke shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Chelios as he jumps to the side.
Nitschke thows a leg kick but Chelios checks it
and Chelios counters with a head kick.
Chelios throws a low kick but Nitschke avoids it.
Horrible takedown attempt by Nitschke or perhaps it was just good defense by Chelios, which made it look bad.
A little feinted left hand from Chelios on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Nitschke scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Chelios doesn't seem bothered though.
Donk. Nitschke catches Chelios right on the button with a cross.
Chelios misses with a low kick as Nitschke jumps back.

Damian Nitschke seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Chelios swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Nitschke takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Chelios tries to clinch up but Nitschke circles away and keeps his distance.
Chelios misses with a hook. Nitschke ducked under it nicely.
Nitschke gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

And Nitschke tries to counter it with a takedown but Chelios pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Nitschke takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Chelios is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Nitschke connects with a nice short shot to Chelios's temple.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Chelios.
Chelios needs to keep his hands up - Nitschke had a free shot at his head there.
Nitschke connects with a nice looking jab.
Chelios throws a head kick but Nitschke moves out of range.
A looping hook to the body misses from Nitschke. Chelios does a little dance to reset his feet.
Nitschke lands a head kick. Chelios smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

A decent looking cross lands there for Nitschke.

and Chelios cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Damian Nitschke showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Nitschke thuds his right hand into Chelios's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Oh Chelios is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Nitschke looks to land a body kick but Chelios moved away.
Chelios walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Nitschke checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Nitschke tries a head kick but it misses.
Nitschke looks to land a left hand but Chelios moved out of range nicely.
A combination from Chelios does no damage.
BOOM! Nitschke lands a beautiful left hook that drops Chelios. Chelios tries to recover but Nitschke is having none of it, landing more punishing shots from mount. One final crushing shot and Chelios lies motionless on the canvas. The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:29 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Damian Nitschke!
Damian Nitschke looked relieved post fight as he said the following; 'Thanks to everyone that supported me when I was going through rough times. I'm back, baby!'.
