PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jai Setright (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ronald Rousey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Setright's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, The Dagger. Rousey has chosen Creepy Jackalope Eye by Supersuckers as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jai Setright!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 17 - 1, fighting out of London, Ronald Rousey!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Alec Ball and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Rousey.
Setright throws a series of strikes that have Rousey backpedaling.


It looks like Ronald Rousey has been cut.
Setright jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Rousey tries a head kick but it misses.
Setright misses with a few strikes there.
Rousey takes one to the side of the head.
Rousey punishes Setright's body with a nice straight punch.
Setright throws a body shot but no joy.
Rousey pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Setright missing with a left hand there. Rousey was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Rousey lands a nice hook to Setright's body. Setright takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rousey catches Setright with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Setright misses with an uppercut.
Setright misses with a two punch combination.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Rousey has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Rousey slips under a jab from Setright.
Nice shot lands for Setright.
Rousey throws a head kick but Setright moves out of range.
Setright throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Setright takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Jai Setright is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Setright jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Rousey thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Setright if he has to take too many more of those.
Setright tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rousey paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Setright lands with a shot to the body.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Setright, as that shot connected.
Rousey blocks the body kick.
Setright throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Rousey sees it coming and avoids it easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Setright takes the fight into the clinch.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Setright pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Setright misses with a low kick.
Rousey feints the counter takedown.
Sloppy strikes from Setright. Those never looked like landing.
Rousey is looking to score with low kicks.
Setright tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Rousey counters with a nice double leg into side control. Setright won't be happy with that.
Rousey scoring with punches and elbows.
Setright is pushing Rousey's head away, looking to escape. Rousey manages to hold on to the position though.
Rousey in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Rousey has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Setright blocking the ground and pound.
Rousey wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.
Setright is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Montreal Fighter's Gym (5* Sparring) that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rousey lands with some strikes.

Rousey moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Setright has worked his arm free - good work by Setright!
Rousey prevents Setright from escaping the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Setright trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
A lull in the action here as Rousey stalls from top position.

Rousey tries for a kimura but Setright is defending well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rousey working the ground and pound from side control.
Setright is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Setright takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Rousey advances to mount.
Setright in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Setright really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Rousey tries to take Setright's back but instead Setright uses the opportunity to regain half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Ronald Rousey will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Ronald Rousey's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Rousey scores with a jab to the body.
Donk. Setright catches Rousey right on the button with a cross.
Setright looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Setright ducks right into an uppercut from Rousey.
Rousey looks to land a right hand but Setright moved out of range.
Good leg kick by Setright there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Setright bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Setright fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Rousey looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Rousey avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Rousey throws a wild body kick that Setright sees coming a mile off.
Setright moves in looking to clinch but Rousey pushes him off.
Setright connects with a right hand. Rousey shakes it off.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Setright throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Setright scores with a jab to the head.
Rousey checks a low kick from Setright.

Setright darts in and clinches Rousey up against the cage.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Rousey creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Setright misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Rousey blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Rousey breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Setright takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Setright misses with a jab, cross combination.
Setright fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Rousey manages to avoid it.

Rousey misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Jai Setright seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Setright throws a head kick that misses.
Rousey drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Setright defends it well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Setright connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Rousey takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Setright slips a straight right by Rousey.
Rousey slips a jab and a cross from Setright.
Setright jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Rousey throws a front kick aimed at Setright's knee but Setright avoids it well.

Rousey throws a head kick that lands with a deafening thwack! The crowd roars as Setright stumbles backwards and falls to the mat. Rousey follows into mount!

Setright is rocked!
Oooooh, big shot lands for Rousey! Setright is hurt baaadly! Rousey is firing away with more strikes - Setright is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ronald Rousey!
