PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Akash Husssain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matvej Vodorov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Akash Husssain!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Matvej Vodorov!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, David Hoff and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vodorov dives in for a single leg takedown but Husssain sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Vodorov just misses with a punch to the body.

Husssain shoots in and bounces Vodorov off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Vodorov wants to hit a switch here but Husssain passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Vodorov there!
Husssain will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Vodorov wants to hold on but Husssain pushes him away.
Vodorov keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Husssain controlling the pace for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vodorov tries to improve his position but instead Husssain has taken his back!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Vodorov trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Husssain has the hooks in. Vodorov is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Husssain biding his time, controlling Vodorov.
Husssain somehow managing to miss with a strike from the back.
Vodorov trying to control but not successfully.
Husssain knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Vodorov on the ground.
Husssain has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Vodorov's body.
Vodorov is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Vodorov trying to control the hands but Husssain breaks the grip.

Vodorov is really stuck here.
Husssain misses with an elbow to the head.
Husssain really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Husssain is not going to allow Vodorov to sit and survive in this position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Vodorov trying to control the action but Husssain just sinks the hooks in.

Husssain has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Vodorov has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Vodorov can't escape the position.
Husssain has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Vodorov's body.

Husssain is trying to stick to Vodorov's back but Vodorov is turning into Husssain. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Husssain's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Vodorov.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Vodorov won't allow Husssain to sweep him here.
Vodorov wants to pass the guard but Husssain is keeping the position.
Vodorov keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Husssain's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Husssain's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Vodorov.

Husssain forces Vodorov back against the cage and clinches.
Husssain prevents a body shot from Vodorov.
Vodorov tries to work over Husssain's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Husssain tries for a takedown. No joy.
Husssain stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Husssain's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Husssain checks a low kick from Vodorov.
Husssain tries to counter by clinching up but Vodorov breaks away and moves out of range.
Matvej Vodorov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Husssain has a takedown stuffed.
And Vodorov tries to counter it with a takedown but Husssain pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Vodorov fails with a takedown attempt.

Husssain moves into the clinch.
Husssain lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Vodorov or not.

Vodorov breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A looping hook to the body misses from Vodorov. Husssain does a little dance to reset his feet.
Husssain is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Vodorov can do to turn this around?
Vodorov looks to land a left hand but Husssain moved out of range nicely.
Vodorov misses the shot to the body.
Vodorov is looking to clinch but Husssain is avoiding it.
Vodorov jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Vodorov tries to clinch
and Vodorov takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Vodorov throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Husssain moves into the clinch.
Vodorov on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.

Husssain jumps guard and drags Vodorov to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Husssain looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Husssain wants to sweep but no luck.
Vodorov in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Vodorov won't allow Husssain to sweep him here.
Husssain is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Vodorov drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Vodorov jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Husssain had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Vodorov defends it easily.

Vodorov drops back, looking for a kneebar! Husssain looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Husssain looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Husssain!

Vodorov sneaks back into half guard.

Vodorov is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Husssain pulls his head out easily.
Vodorov wants to control but Husssain is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Husssain in particular looking to stall.
Vodorov is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Husssain thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Vodorov's head.
Husssain perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Vodorov looking for submissions off his back.
Vodorov is breathing heavily.
Vodorov tries to roll over but Husssain keeps him under control.
Husssain is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Husssain shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Vodorov defends it nicely.
Vodorov changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Husssain lands with a nice body punch.
Husssain darts in looking for a takedown but Vodorov gets double underhooks and turns Husssain into the cage.
Vodorov misses with a body shot.
Vodorov fails with a takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Husssain closes the distance and clinches.

Husssain looking for a guillotine here but Vodorov defends easily.

Husssain is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Vodorov's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Vodorov is working Husssain over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Husssain is looking for a triangle but Vodorov pushes his legs off easily.
Vodorov postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Akash Husssain overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Vodorov is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Vodorov makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Vodorov distracts Husssain with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Husssain actively working from the bottom here.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Vodorov lands a nice short elbow.

Vodorov seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Vodorov slips a nice elbow through Husssain's hands, connecting with Husssain's forehead.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Vodorov connects with a nice short shot to Husssain's temple.
Vodorov is nestled in close to Husssain, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Vodorov stands up from half guard.
Vodorov tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
No luck for Vodorov with that takedown attempt.
Matvej Vodorov has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Husssain throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Vodorov gets a double leg takedown into Husssain's guard.

Husssain has his feet on Vodorov's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Akash Husssain is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Vodorov buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Vodorov shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Husssain but Husssain pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Akash Husssain has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matvej Vodorov.
Husssain clobbers Vodorov with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Husssain closes the distance and lands a one-two.

Husssain rushes Vodorov and presses him up against the cage.
Akash Husssain is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Vodorov tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Matvej Vodorov comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Husssain has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
