PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Moff Brighton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robo Pope (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pope comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Ghost - Monstrance Clock kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Moff Brighton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 38 - 0, fighting out of New York, Robo Pope!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Lou da Vinci and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brighton shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Pope as he avoids it easily.
Pope looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Brighton tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Pope defends well and Brighton ends up having to push Pope into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Brighton darts in looking for a takedown but Pope gets double underhooks and turns Brighton into the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Moff Brighton. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Brighton shoots in looking for a takedown. Pope tries to sprawl out of it but Brighton keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Pope manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Brighton changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Pope looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Pope bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Brighton shoots in looking for a takedown but Pope manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Brighton's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Brighton closes this distance looking for a takedown but Pope circles away.
We've been informed that Pope has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Brighton shoots in looking for a takedown. Pope tries to sprawl out of it but Brighton keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Pope manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Pope throws a sloppy head kick and Brighton moves out of range easily.
Brighton seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

Brighton shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Pope pinned against the cage. Pope gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Brighton looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Pope enables Brighton to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Pope manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Brighton seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Brighton thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Brighton seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Pope for as long as he can get away with.
Brighton postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Brighton controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Brighton is trying hard to land a takedown here. Pope sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Brighton moves into range and clinches up with Pope.
Brighton tries to score a body lock takedown but Pope shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Brighton wants to take the fight to the mat but Pope manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Brighton ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Brighton no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Brighton is looking for a triangle but Pope pushes his legs off easily.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Brighton is adopting a defensive guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Robo Pope will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Pope unleashes a big counter combination but Brighton bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Brighton tries to score a power double leg takedown but Pope sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Brighton somewhat.

Pope stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Pope wants it to stay on the feet.

Brighton is looking to clinch but Pope is avoiding it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Brighton gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Brighton shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Pope but Pope pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Brighton tries to score a power double leg takedown but Pope sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Brighton somewhat.

and Brighton counters with a series of strikes. Pope will be more careful next time no doubt.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

We are yet to see a takedown attempt from Pope in the fight. On paper you would think he is the more dominant ground fighter so let's see if these unusual tactics pay off.
Brighton closes the distance and clinches up with Pope, looking for a takedown. Brighton pushes Pope against the cage but Pope circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
As Brighton backs off Pope throws a huge counter combo but Brighton manages to avoid it all.
Brighton throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Pope's waist but Pope gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Brighton off to one side.
Brighton tries for a takedown but Pope sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Pope pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Brighton drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brighton prevents Pope from getting back to his feet.
Brighton is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Brighton stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Brighton looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Brighton looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Brighton looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Brighton thows a huge punch but Pope dodges it nicely.
Brighton not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Brighton connects with a nice short shot to Pope's temple.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Moff Brighton will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Brighton closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Pope's guard.


It looks like Robo Pope has been cut.
Brighton controls from within his opponent's guard.
Brighton's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Brighton has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Pope takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Brighton slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Pope is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Brighton dives in and grabs Pope's left leg, looking for a takedown. Pope pushes down on Brighton's head and hops out.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Pope wants to break free but Brighton has control.

Robo Pope comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Pope has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
